Do I need to subscribe to Sky to record Sky+ programmes?

Hi. I used to subscribe to Sky, but currently don't.

However, I still have my Sky+box, and my dish, and so if I need to, can use it get basic channels.  I used to be able to record these channels as well, but it has stopped working.

Does anyone know if you SHOULD be able to record on a working box, if you have one?

Sky+ is a legacy system, they will only allow you to het Sky Q or Sky Glass/Stream from now on

Sky+ Recording/Playback is only for existing Sky Subscribers

You have to be a paying Sky TV customer before being able to use your box to record so as you are not then you will be unable to do this.

No, not without a Sky subscription, as we discussed before. However, it appears this was overlooked in relation to your Sky+ box - have you paired your Viewing Card with your replacement box? It's the Viewing Card which contains your viewing/recording rights.

I've just signed up to a record only package for £5 per month on a rolling contract. If that helps.

You get a few more channels than freeview too

A few more than Freesat, perhaps.  Freeview (from a full multiplex rather than a local relay, and particularly when combined with Freeview Play) has many more channels than are available free-to-air on satellite, mostly because terrestrial distribution is considerably cheaper for the channel owners than paying for orbital data transit.

Satellite does have the advantage of national coverage though, so all its channels are available everywhere: our local Freeview repeater only has the PSB channels.

Was the record only package for £5 on SkyQ and what did you say to be offered record only.

Thanks

Does the £5 per month contract to record on a Sky HD+ box include recording HD programs?

@TRW96  It covers all programs, but I'm not sure if the subscription is still available to new subscribers (only if you already have it)

Only the free to air HD programmes, such as BBC1/2, ITV, C4 and C5, but as @SKY1992bf posted, I don't think that's available any longer to Sky+ customers.
