Re: Do I lose my Sky+ Box and all recordings after after Q upgrade?

I had a Hybrid LNB installed three years ago when I had SKY Q installed. I was reverted to SKY+ HD and I just needed to connect up my SKY+ HD box and insert my card to revert back to SKY+ HD. I am able to live pause , rewind , record and rewatch recordings with no issues with the Hybrid LNB

"Logsie Completely agree, but it isn't going to change now so late in the day. Equally, once you get Sky Q, the boxes are on loan, so there's usually little time spent on trying to fix one. So your box gets swapped out, losing your recordings again.

Bare in mind though, that Sky boxes were never designed to be used for long term storage boxes. They were designed for time shifting recordings. Eventually your hard drive will pack up and your recordings will be gone anyway.

Sky's policy with regard to reverting from Sky Q to Sky+HD changed some while ago.

I am not aware of this change. When I got SKY Q in 2018 there was a cooldown period of 14 days and if you wanted you could revert to SKY+ HD.

It changed about a year ago, possibly partially because they stopped manufacturing Sky+HD boxes about 5 years ago so don't have any left for reversions.

It's also not having any new development other than bug fixes (like the recent time issue),  so they'll want to move as many customers off it as possible.

Re: Do I lose my Sky+ Box and all recordings after after Q upgrade?

I wonder if a way round this problem is to use a new viewing card from the Sky Q box in the Sky + HD box (if you are able to keep both boxeS) becuase it's the subsription that's being paid for, not the hardware, as such?

@Guy+Birtwistle  Not possible as you wouldn't be able to link  the boxes to the same lnb for a start

@Guy+Birtwistle the LNB on the arm of your dish isn't compatible with Sky Q and is changed when you switch and your Sky+ box won't work without signal. Unless you can convince Sky to fit a hybrid LNB which works with both Sky+ and Sky Q.

Re: Do I lose my Sky+ Box and all recordings after after Q upgrade?

This is exactly the issue I have with Sky and despite the fact that they've been offering me a discount package to upgrade from +HD to Sky Q, I won't do it because I have too many recordings I want to keep and can't transfer to Q. It's ridiculous that Sky still haven't found a way to do a simple transfer of recordings from the old to new box. There are many customers who are complaining about this so please Sky, get it sorted!!

@Philshaw26 it not going to happen, I'm afraid.  Such a process won't be developed because recordings are intended for time-shifting purposes only, not for long term archiving.

Sky should seriously consider this Despite the fact you say it's never going to happen because they will have many thousands of dissatisfied customers if they don't take steps to rectify this issue and of course they will lose out on sky Q upgrades.

They have had millions of customers who have already moved away from Sky+ to another system and they did not provide this service so why should they do it now?

You say they will "lose out on Sky Q upgrades" but eventually the Sky+ boxes will die and recording be lost anyway, this has started already, and people will only have one option
