Cancelling Sky Signature and free Sky

I've searched and not found a specific answer, or one I understand the tech for, so would be grateful for advice/tips.
In order to reduce costs, I'm cancelling my Sky BB, phone and TV Sky Signature package and have been told if I keep my Sky+ box I can get free Sky channels. Is this correct and if so do I need to do anything other than leave it as it is and operate it in the normal way?
I realise I will get fewer channels, so I'm wanting to supplement with streaming devices I already have.

After a house rewire I have the wired in satellite sockets a double in the sitting room and single in two bedrooms. I'm guessing I'd need another separate Sky box if I wanted any free Sky in those bedrooms too?

Do I need to do or get anything else to do any of this?

Many thanks for any tips, advice etc as I'm not very good with telly tech!

Without an active suscription you will get the freeSAT channels but you will no longer have the record/playback features

That is correct as you will still have access to the free channels without a subscription. You should also note that should you change your mind you will have to upgrade to Sky Q as Sky will not reactivate the channels on a Sky+ box.

Was the LNB (the electronic bit on the dish) changed to provide these multiple feeds ?

Due to this LNB being electronics which needs power & for SKY HD boxes & Freesat boxes relies on Voltage changes, as well as the presence or not of a 22KHz tone/  Thus the signal cannot be split the same way that Terrestrial TV can be, so generally needs an LNB with multiple outputs

BTW if you were to get additional boxes to watch FreeSat you would probably be better getting dedicated Freesat boxes rather than second hand SKY boxes

FreeSAT channels ... those must be the FTA channels ... although there is one Freesat channel🤔
