Our TV is on the wall above a new fireplace we've had put in & we’d like to hide our sky box, but it’s the old old one so I'd rather bulky! We looked at upgrading to Sky Q last year (which would be ideal as the box is smaller and so we could hide it behind the TV) but aren't able to have it (for different reasons but main one being they can't get onto our roof - we live in a terrace cottage with a conservatory on the back). Any advice would be appreciated thank you!

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreUnfortunately Sky Q won't work with your existing dish. A fitting on the arm of the dish - the LNB - has to be changed, which. obviously means access to the dish is needed. Sky have strict health and safety requirements which may preclude their engineers from doing that. All you can do is speak to Sky and see what options, if any are available to you to enable that to happen.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreWhen you switch from Sky +HD to Sky Q, the LNB on the dish needs replacing.
If Sky deem it unsafe to access, you could get a third party satellite installer to do it instead.
However, Sky engineers have still been known to refuse to install Sky Q where the dish can't be accessed in order to check it. So you would need to get assurance from Sky that the installation would go ahead if you got the LNB changed independently.
Another factor in doing this is that once the LNB is changed, your current box won't work, so timing is important as you would be without Sky for the period between changing the LNB and having Sky Q installed.
