Can only record the channel I’m watching

So I can only record the channel I'm watching at present on my Sky+ box. 
if I try and record another channel it fails, and if I try and put that Channel on I get the error message saying no satellite signal, and I then have to reset my sky box! 
I've also got no program synopsis. 
many ideas anyone?

There's no signal from one of the cables to your dish. Try unplugging your Sky box and disconnecting the two dish cables. Then reconnect them, being careful to lign up the connector  with the socket. Switch on and check to see if it's resolved.
