Hi, as title says I received a letter about bbc removing sd channels and have been offered an upgrade from my sky +hd box to a sky Q box. Do i need this upgrade? Are skyQ boxes problematic? Any pro's & con's? Thanks for any advice

@jagjosh It's a personal choice,
given I know I won't lose access to bbc hd channels on my current box I have no need to upgrade until such time sky switch off the sky + platform completely which in turn would force my hand to switch
like @caesarome says the decision as to whether to switch is solely yours, not mine or anyone else's

@jagjosh Beware you don't really need to upgrade if your sky + box is
SKY +HD
As this version carries hd already so if you go to 101 on your tv guide does it say BBC ONE (Region) HD and can you view it?
I've had the same letter but I don't need to upgrade to Q has my box is +HD, so check your box before committing to an upgrade

Sky+ is an end of life product: HD hardware was last manufactured in 2015 and sooner or later Sky will close down the platform because it's increasingly uneconomic to support given Q has around 80% of the subscription base.
Sky Q brings on-board apps, UHD output (from the main Q box) and wireless connection to four Mini boxes at a lower cost than having multiple Multiscreen subscriptions (although only two Minis can be in use simultaneously)
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2

It is up to you as you might not need to upgrade is this applies:

@TimmyBGood this will be the point that I switch to Q and not before

Re: BBC removing sd so been offered free skyQ box…..whats the catch? If any
I'm with @SKY1992bf, my Sky+HD box works reliably and does eeverything I want it to. I don't need Netflix/Disney etc. I don't need UHD. And I don't need Multiscreen boxes.
I do, however, like Reminders and Slow Motion (which Sky Q doesn't have).
Sky+HD works, just like it always has.

I am in a similar position - I can see BBC Scotland HD on my Sky+HD box and probably worth noting that if you do upgrade to SkyQ you'll lose all your recordings from your Sky+ box
