Might be somewhat tricky to service some tens of millions of customer accounts during the several years such a software project would take, though.
I don't think there are enough quill pens and leather-bound ledgers in the world...

One would hope they'd have the sense to build a new IT system entirely offline though... and thoroughly test it... before actually migrating customer accounts to it...
That's what any remotely sensible business would do. But whether or not Sky are even attempting this is anyone's guess.

I'd think any such project, if it existed, would have almost certainly been nullified by the Comcast takeover: in corporate terms that takes everything back to Year Zero and a complete re-evaluation of everything requiring senior executive sign-off.

I've had Stream now for about 9 months. Over that period it's got a lot better, but sadly its still woefully slow with third party apps and pretty bug ridden (quite often boot up to a Home Screen and TV Guide that thinks it's 12 hours earlier than it is for example!). Yes, I'm wired in. Yes WiFi is off. The concept is brilliant but it is so poorly implemented. I wonder how non-technical people who have purchased this manage.
The only thing keeping me with Stream is UHD sport and UHD content on Sky Atlantic. I use my AppleTV now for everything else apart from iPlayer (how there's no 1080p let alone UHD on iPlayer on AppleTV is beyond me!).
I would happily pay Sky for a decent Stream set top box with local apps but I doubt that will ever happen. It's just a matter of time now before me and Sky part ways after many years together.

@SkaroKaled Fully agree with the above but at least it is continuing to improve solwly.

I'm a new sky customer, and have sadly got this pile of junk stream puck.
I cannot fathom how this has been released into the wild, the product is absolutely useless.
Most people have covered the issues so I won't bother adding but I will be returning this pile of junk tomorrow.

I might be right behind you @TheCableGuy996!!
I've only had Sky Stream one week, and I've been away for most of that so in a matter of days I've discovered numerous frustrations. The UX isn't intuitive and is really slow, not just in terms of its response but the sequence you have the go through to do anything. I can't control my TV, which I could with Sky Q, and this evening I've tried to pause a programme and then catch up but the sound keeps going off and then pause, fast forward and rewind just don't work. I had to resort to iplayer which just defeats the object. Minor point but the voice recognition is terrible as well.
I was prepared to give it a go and try to get used to the interface, etc. but if I can't reliably pause/rewind/fast forward live TV then I may as well have freeview and just use streaming apps.

I've reached the same conclusion - it is SO terrible. I'm currently battling with getting Sky to even acknowledge my cancellation request let alone provide the postage to return the wretched thing (I carefully kept the packaging). I'm just so glad we went for a rolling 30 day contract as the thought of being trapped in an 18 month contract is horrific. I suspect just doing the cancellation is going to be extremely onerous. World-leading levels of atrocious tech and customer service from sky.

When you do return the equipment get a proof of postage receipt and keep it safe as Sky have been known to contact you months after the return was made claiming that they had not received it. I'm sure there is no malice it is just a failing in the returns process. I returned my Q box over a year ago and still have the receipt.

TOTALLY AGREE, THE ITALIANS AREN'T THE BRIGHTEST BUNCH 🤣🤣.. I WANT MY DISH BACK.. I HAD NO TV FOR 3 HOURS THE OTHER NIGHT.. CAN'T RECORD AND NO PLUS ONE... BECAUSE THEY SAY WHAT YOU WANT TO WATCH IS ON THE PLAYERS (More lies), CAN ONLY REWIND AROUND 20 MINUTES IT WAS AN HOUR.. IT'S GOING BACK IT'S NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE...

Why should we SKY SAID THAT THE BROADBAND SPEED GOES WITH THE SKY STREAM... SIMPLE AS

Using iPlayer defeats the object? That's EXACTLY the point of it. It's a streaming service. The idea is that you would just use the streaming service when you're ready to watch it!
There's a lot of Q users who just don't grasp what Sky Stream is about.

@Jon+Reeve it defeats the object of paying for Sky. If I can't pause live TV and then pick up where or left off and reliably rewind or fast forward, then it's not doing what they promise and I may as well just use the individual streaming services. It's not a case of not grasping it, the system is far from optimal. And Christ alone knows how many people sat in a developers' meeting and agreed that was a good UI!

This is all very subjective, majority of viewers have a good experience with sky stream. Albeit they need to improve third party apps and FF/RW
