I already have SKY+ had it for years. I want SKY Steam in another room. SKY won't let me. Any idea why. Seems like a crazy marketing decision and makes no sense.

You can't have 2 seperate subscription types at the same address, you have to choose one or the other. It's their decisions and as customers we are not privvy to Sky's internal reasons for this.

Re: Why can’t I have SKY+ and SKY Stream at the same time
Indeed how Sky make their decisions seems a mystery!
Surely they want nus all to move to their new technology platform.
But I won't be doing that until I have seen how well their streaming works. I tried Sky Go and it was utterly awful - hopelessly under featured (no pause, no rewind etc.), and poor preformance (pausing and crashing) and I have 200Mbps fibre
Hopefully they read this community feedback!

Re: Why can’t I have SKY+ and SKY Stream at the same time
Not permitting more than one platform at an address has been Sky policy for several decades: I very much doubt that's going to change, particularly as the satellite platforms head towards obsolescence anyway.
Go is of course an entirely software-based legacy 'free' add-on to historic Sky offerings and bares no technical relationship to Sky Stream (which is essentially a Comcast product and has plenty of its own foibles ; )

You can have both Sky+ and Now. In fact, you coulhave several Now subscriptions.
I know it's not Sky stream, but you can watch Now on various TV's and streaming sticks so that could be an alternative to Stream, especially if you don't want to ditch your Sky+ HD.

One month's free trial if available is the only option @IggyPip for Sky Stream and Now TV is another option

Re: Why can’t I have SKY+ and SKY Stream at the same time
The issue with the free trial of Stream in this situation is that Sky typically wouldn't permit reversion to Sky+ at the end of it: there would only be complete cancellation or a move to Sky Q.

Re: Why can’t I have SKY+ and SKY Stream at the same time
Worthwhile trying a NOW subscription in your other room to check that your broadband network can sustain a streaming service to meet your requirements.
Any half decent (not necessarily expensive) smart TV or any TV with a Firestick/Roku/AndroidTV/Apple TV device attached to it will give you live streams of all the free to air channels via the appropriate apps (iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5, U, etc.) You can then add other free apps such as PlutoTV, and Rakuten TV for more free live and on demand streams of other channels.
The NOW app with the appropriate subscription will give you any Sky channels you want, be they entertainments, movies or sports. You can add Boost or Ultra Boost if you want them in UHD with HDR and Atmos. You can get live channel streams as well as on demand content.
Sky services are not limited to Sky hardware any more. You can easily mix and match Sky+ with a secondary streaming device with an app store and appropriate subscriptions to receive more or less the same channels.

Re: Why can’t I have SKY+ and SKY Stream at the same time
You could also try an Apple TV box with TV Launcher and use that in conjunction with either Sky Go or a Now subscription. I've read that lot of people who've been dissatisfied with Sky Stream have moved directly to Apple TV and the TV Launcher.

WRT Sky+ it is understandable as Sky no longer support Sky+🤔
WRT Sky Q it is understandable as customers can use Sky Q mini boxes😉
Mixed system installations are an unnecessary additional support cost🤔

Actually its likely more to do with their legacy systems that were built when they were only a satellite TV provider, which were obviously built in that way as you could only have one satellite service in your home either + or Q.
With the satellite platform likely going end-of-life at the end of this decade, i would highly suspect its unlikely that a major change to the backend legacy systems would be made at a high cost in order to allow for a streaming and satellite subscription in one property.
