Hi @davebaby in a word "nothing". It is there to comply with the legislation in certain countries however it is disabled in UK.
Recently Sky activated it for a short period but this was in error and they turned it off again. As you point out in your post, If your BB goes down you can watch terrestrial TV direct from your TV aerial socket.

Some countries require set top boxes to be able to access state-controlled digital terrestrial television as well as privately owned satellite, cable and internet providers: this tends to be where there's a history of volatile politics. Equipping the puck with a digital tuner means the same hardware can be deployed across Europe.
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2

Australia too. Their Hubbl Hub is identical to the Sky Stream puck, runs Entertainment OS and actually incorporates free-to-air local channels received via an aerial alongside the streamed channels on the EPG.

If Sky enabled it, there be no point calling it Sky Stream, it would need to be called Sky Steam & Freeview but the puck would still go to standy after pausing it for 5 minuites so no change there... 🙂
I am not a Sky Engineer but at one time wanted to be one or a BT Engineer... 🙂
I like working things out like its a puzzle... 🙂
I was a PC Engineer and fix peoples PCs by going to there house, Windows XP was known to slow down PCs over time and clog up the PCs RAM and its start-up and had to reinstall it for the customer, the only way you could fix WinXP.

Interestingly our broadband went down for a couple of minutes last night, and the antenna symbol appeared on the screen. Wasn't off long enough to see if the tuner worked, but I guess it's there as an option. (That's on the puck by the way)
