Re: Watch from start fast forward issue once broadcast has ended

@AndrewF_UK   Thank you for the reply, although I do understand the principle you mention, however Glass and Stream are the same except we don't have the TV, so it will surely have already been rolled out to well over 5% of the customer base and if as @KevNewMedia says it is a fix then they know it works, so why can't it be express rolled out to the rest of us, or am I missing something?

Edit. I have just seen @MarkGoldsmith  reply which cam in while I was typing, but still wonder why it can't be rolled out more quickly.

Glass and Stream aren't quite the same. As mentioned Glass Gen 1 and Glass Gen 2 are believed to run on different SoC and Stream also possibly runs on a different SoC (I don't think it's documented publically one way or the other).

So there's that hardware difference, but then there's also software differences between the two. For example Glass has Airplay support and Freeview antenna support. And then on the other side, Stream needs to support countless numbers of third party TVs and remotes, sound systems etc. which of course Glass doesn't need to do (to the same extent).

They're really close siblings, but they are different enough to justify a cautious approach I reckon..

Also I don't think Sky really does "hot fixes", this will be a fix as part of a wider software release. It's not just a fix for this bug (although arguably a more rapid but smaller update programme would be wiser, that's a management decision for Sky).

Could be that the exact code fix that went in on Glass, when implemented on Sky Stream may have broken something else, or also potentially that the actual code used to implement the fix for Stream needs to be slightly different than the one used for Glass.

Don't forget that for code changes implemented Sky will need to implement the code change, build the software version, do several testing phases, then arrange for the gradually rollout if their testing is deemed successful. They would need to do this independantly on Glass and Stream and likely the addition of the Gen 2 Glass TVs gives them a third strand that they need to repeat this process on.

Even prior to Glass Gen 2 I'm fairly sure there were previous software updates that may have rolled out first to either Glass or Stream before then being rolled out to the other product.

@KevNewMedia you and more importantly, Sky, must be able to appreciate the frustration this is causing your customers and you, and Sky,  must agree that 6 months is an unreasonable amount of time we have had to endure this massive fault. We have just had to accept losing the end of countless TV programmes.
Sky Stream isn't fit to be sold in its current state.

Someone at Sky must be able to give us some kind of update with a realistic time frame that we can expect this fault to be resolved.

We have been fobbed off for months and months expecting a resolution any day, but the days have turned into months and we're still in the dark having been told for months now that a software update will be rolled out soon with promised deadlines coming and going but nobody keeping us updated.

This is the final week I will accept paying for this flawed service, I am tied in to a 2 year contract but as far as I'm concerned, Sky aren't fulfilling their side of that. .
Please contact the necessary department in Sky, find out and inform us of the date we can expect the Stream updates to start being rolled out and when they will all be completed.
We understand these things can slip, but if that happens, come back and update us. People will be much more understanding if you are open and honest.

I think someone high up at Sky should come on here and explain why the Sky Stream we are all paying for has been broken for over 6 months and how seriously (or otherwise) they are taking this.

The fix is currently being rolled out in update qs035. Fingers crossed it works for you

I'm tied into a 2 year contract too. I don't like sky stream at all. Virgin is significantly better, the actual fast forward on the remote and no need to pay for advert skipping on virgin I regret moving.

@Kirsty163 Virgin's newer Flex product is very similar to Stream where it's playlist based and uses the apps, but they don't offer an ad skipping add on. That means when it comes to ITVX, Channel 4, 5 etc. you're forced to watch ads or subscribe to their individual premium services (except for 5 which doesn't have one). So the fact Sky gives the option is a plus for me.

I appreciate that people got used to fast forwarding ads on live TV and the change of this to a paid addon is a bit annoying, but for the overall value it gives I'm happy with it. The separate costs for ITVX and Channel 4 would be greater.

Re: Watch from start fast forward issue once broadcast has ended

Just to let you know that my first Puck has been updated to QS035.

So the update is rolling out to Pucks now.

Re: Watch from start fast forward issue once broadcast has ended

The virgin package is was on recorded programs to a box so I could fast forward the ads. It didn't just take me to the individual players where you can't fast forward.

Re: Watch from start fast forward issue once broadcast has ended

Perhaps someone who has got the updated software could tell us here whether it works or not. I haven't got it yet. Thanks.

Re: Watch from start fast forward issue once broadcast has ended

From the limited experience on Sky Glass I have the update solved the problem.

I haven't tried on Puck yet but I would expect it to work the same.

Hi @JennyMeTicklerTin My stream puck received the QS035 update a few days ago and have not had any WFS or lip sync issues since receiving it so hopefully the fix will work for you when you receive it 🤞

Yep. It's their equivalent of Sky Q in the sense it's a proper DVR.
