Unable to connect Sky glass streaming box to my TV

Good evening,

I have the Sky Glass streaming package and am trying to connect it to my HDMI TV ,Pioneer ,Model 4280XD.The sky box when connected through HDMI to the TV shows only the white light on it.I have connected the streaming box to the internet through a Cable .

Please help me where I am going wrong  as nothing is showing up on the TV.

My sky acocunt on the web  shows me that the streaming activation is due as its a new subscription  I have taken recently with Sky  .It also says   as follows:

Plug and play

Once your Sky Glass or Sky Stream puck has arrived, simply plug in and follow the on-screen instructions.

Just a heads up, if you haven’t activated your TV within 14 days of delivery, your billing will start automatically.

Sadly I do not see anything showing up on my TV screen .

Please guide .

Any help will be highly apprecaited.

Kindest Regards,

Darpan

You're going to need to buy a new TV if you want to attach a Sky Stream puck to it. Your Pioneer plasma is just too old.

@Darpan05

Which hdmi socket have you plugged the sky box into ?

have you you used the tv remote (by using the source or input button) to change the channel on the tv to the hdmi number that you have plugged into ?

Re: Unable to connect Sky glass streaming box to my TV

@Darpan05

That's a very old plasma TV with a 1,024 x 768 native resolution so the puck's 1080i default may not show. You may need to connect the puck to a newer TV & set the video output to a lower resolution then connect it to the Pioneer.

There's a good chance however that it may not work at all if the HDMI ports on the TV are not HDCP compliant.

2007 or earlier, so pre-dating HDCP 1.4 which was ratified in 2009.

Re: Unable to connect Sky glass streaming box to my TV

Hi Timmy,

Thanks for the reply.

So what's the way out for me to resolve this?

I have the Sky glass streaming hub to me.

I have connected the HDMI of the box to the TV.

My sky account says that the service is not activated as yet and can be set up on TV, but I do not see the Sky signals.

Appreciate your response.

Cheers!

Darpan

You may be correct.

Looking at the manual online for that TV it has the following;

HDMI1.3 and HDCP1.1

From the specs that I recall  seeing on here before for Sky Stream, it has to have at least

HDMI 1.4 and HDCP 1.4

Re: Unable to connect Sky glass streaming box to my TV

Hi Jporch,

I have connected to the only one HDMI socket I gave on the TV.

I did try to change the channels. It showed me a channel names of BBC etc but not the sky TV. Could not locate it.

Appreciate your response.

Thanks,

Darpan

@Darpan05 according to the specs in the  manual for your set here the HDMI ports on your Pioneer Plasma only support HDCP1.1 so the Stream cannot display a picture as for HD it requires HDCP1.4 support which the chips in your plasma don't provide. Sorry but there is no legal way to get it to work.

There are devices that claim to defeat HDCP protection but they cannot be discussed in this forum.

@Darpan05 It's not the channel on the TV you would need to change but the input source so it displays the content from the device connected via the HDMI cable.

On a TV remote there is usually a button that looks like a square with an arrow that can be used to change the input source over to HDMI.

However as others have pointed out the issue could mainly be down to the age of your TV not being compatible with HDMI 1.4. So if you have selected HDMI as the input source and you still see nothing then this is likely the problem and you would need a more modern TV to plug the Sky Stream puck into. Pretty much most TVs made in the last decade are supported.

Just a note that Sky don't do engineer visits for Sky Glass or Sky Stream as they are designed to be easy to setup by just plugging it in and following the on-screen instructions.
