Trying to buy sky stream without sky glass

I'm trying to transfer to sky stream from sky Q.

You don't seem to be able to do this online?

They keep trying to sell me sky glass which I don't want

@queensgatekent

I made the move from Q to Stream earlier in the year, need to do so via 'phone. I don't recall anyone trying to sell me Glass - if they did try, they weren't successful.

That's correct: it appears Q users have to phone.

Re: Trying to buy sky stream without sky glass

Thanks for that. I'm trying to book the changeover whilst in Spain on Black Friday deal.

They don't seem to be able to do it on line? Don't want to phone as I'm in Spain until 10th.

Are you happy with the switch?

You should check the T&Cs of the deal you are looking at as it's highly likely it may be for new customers only and therefore won't apply to customers switching over to Stream from Sky + or Q.

@queensgatekent

Our switch was more of necessity rather than choice; our preference would have been to stick with Sky Q for the time being.

For us, Stream is not without it's problems and any that we have experienced haven't caused me to throw it out the window.

You'll read posts from many users that hate it and many that haven't had any real issues at all - then of course all those other users that don't come to a forum to comment, negative or otherwise.

It's not faultless; streaming does seem to be the future for live TV though.

Thank you for your help, appreciated.

Most likely stick with Q

Re: Trying to buy sky stream without sky glass

We had the same experience. In fact, we were told you CANNOT buy Sky Stream without Sky Glass, to the extent that they told us the "Control Box" to make the stream work is in the Sky Glass device. It's dishonest to the point of making me wonder if this is a business that you should be transacting with. That is a sales culture that has gone off the rails, driven by management, not the individuals in the sales and service call centres.

I'd think it's rather more likely you encountered a contact centre person who either hasn't been trained properly and/or is confusing the newer technology with Sky Q.

Re: Trying to buy sky stream without sky glass

Edit  - the requirement was. Purchase SkyGlass with 1 box for £52 or the Sky Streams Puks for £78.

@DP65

Stream pucks aren't purchased: any up-front payment is a fee which facilities their loan.  A Glass television is purchased (typically through an unsecured personal loan paid back over four years) but any accompanying puck isn't being sold and remains Sky property.

Content subscription is additional to both the loan repayment and the one-off fee.

All of this does make comparing prices unnecessarily complicated.
