Hi all
Thanks in advance for your advice!
I am looking into sky stream and currently have sky q.
I've looked into what I currently record and I don't think it should be a huge issue apart from I tend to record the F1 from sky F1 to watch later. This doesn't appear on the on demand for many days after the race so I'd still like to 'record' this
I've heard about cloud recording. Would this work in my use case?
Thanks

If you add F1 races to your Sky Stream playlist from the correct channel on the EPG, you can get access to a cloud recording of the broadcast stream quite quickly after the race has finished.
It's not as elegant or reliable a solution compared to Sky Q but it can work.
Stream remains a bit clunky with some things (such as fast forwarding and rewinding) but does work pretty well.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreI can confirm the F1 cloud recording feature does work as i use it. You just have to make sure you playlist the Live F1 programme and not the replays ( as they are considered different programming - even for the ones in the middle of the night where they repeated the entire thing including the pre and post race shows). One thing to note with the F1, if you are a fan of Ted's Notebook, i've strangely noticed that even if you playlist the live version of the show, it only seems to take a cloud recording of one of the replays. Not a big issue as the show is available a couple of hours after first broadcast and its quite a niche thing but still thought i'd point it out.
The benefit is that you can change your mind and cancel within 31 days and switch back to Sky Q, so you don't actually lose anything by giving it a test and seeing if you like it.
I recently moved from Sky + HD to Stream and i must say i love it. Again most of the shows i want to watch are available almost immediately on demand but the cloud recording feature also works really well for me. A number of the big/primetime shows on the big channels like ITV and 4 do seemingly get cloud recorded ( this surprised me as i was expecting it not to get cloud recorded from the live channel and just provide a link to the on-demand player).

Isn't it the case cloud recording are auto-deleted after a relative short time?

@Chrisee how old is the oldest cloud recording?

Find out more@Exiled-in-HH since I last looked somebody has done some prunning now I have two of the Italian GP 22 shows and then a gap to Abu Dahbi in that year. The 23 season looks complete with 161 cloud recordings. There was a mention of 1000 hours max per users at launch IIRC which just about computes.

Abu Dhabi would be about 12 months ago?
Perhaps the Italian ones escaped removal😉

Find out more@Exiled-in-HH I would be careful extrapolating from one case as a couple of weeks ago I had all of the 22 season. i suspect Sky run housekeeping routines periodically which clean up the servers. As far as I am concerned although I like watching F1 I dont go back to watch the whole or Practice 3 for the Hungarian grand prix. A couple of months would suit me.

Yes... Sky clear old recordings perhaps those over 12 months unlike Sky Q 🤔
12 months can be considered a relative short time, compare to an indefinite time on Sky Q😉

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreBut thats a clear and highlighted difference in cloud service vs hard disk recording. Thats a well known and publicised difference between Sky Q and Sky Streaming.
The fact is the world is moving away from hard disk recording of television and into a predominantely streaming future. The world of television is going to be completely different within the next decade.

Content creators have long wanted to regain control of their creations .... streaming and the slow death of recording is giving them that control😉

Morning,
old thread but hopefully I get a reply...
To keep it simple I have been comparing Sky Streaming vs NowTv for Formula 1, other than Formula 1 I have no need for either services
After determining all of the deals, taking into account that I only need NowTV for 10 months of the year and matching them like for like - other than getting the Sky entertainment channels & the puk with Steaming - Sky streaming is £2 a month more expensive so there is nothing in it except having a 18 month contact vs pay as I want with NowTV
my question really is from a convience perspective which is the better offering, I want to be able to do the following...
- Watch qualify, the race & sprints live
- Drop mid race into a session and rewind to the beginning
- Watch post race with no more than a few hours of the broadcast
I have read all the threads around cloud recording and potential issues with not being able to rewind, so of these 2 now that cost is not a consideration which is the better 'technology'' for my needs

Cloud recording works perfectly fine for F1. Also the cloud recording remains available to view until the on-demand content is made available. To skip the ads if watching in a delayed form you would need the "ad skipping" add-on.
