@cookiemonsteruk  Afraid not, it will always do it after a set duration to make sure there is someone watching.

Re: Sky stream standby mode

Absolutely ridiculous. Sick of pausing something going away for 10 mins and coming back and its lost.

@sean121089  If I think I will be paused for longer than about 5 minutes I tend to make a mental note of the current position and rewind about 10 minutes.  When I get back I then just FF or RW as appropriate to the correct place.  It's a lot of faffing about but at least you can continue with what you were watching.

As above, if watching a live channel, just use rewind, Watch from Start or add to playlist and one of those should get you back if just pausing for say a fifteen minute or so.

@lettice  You are perfectly correct with the watch from start option but personally I won't use this method for this type of situation.  I find that it will often put the programme onto your continue watching rail and then, even if you can get rid of it, it reappears with every subsequent episode.  BBC and ITV are particularly bad for doing this.

Yeah its not the end of the world but this wasn't an issue 20 years ago. They are making things worse.

@sean121089 very true but of course 20 years ago energy saving was not high on the priorities and governments had not required electical devices to have energy saving features built-in as they do now.

Re: Sky stream standby mode

20250227_215943.jpgIts werid, the puck is only 5v so at most it use 3 to 4 amps so same as a MXQ Android box so it uses not a lot of electric, the Sky Q box uses a lot more and that does not turn itself off, it has heatsinks in it because it use a dish and the Sky Q box gets hot, plus it uses more than 5V, it uses a PS/2 type connector plugged into it in the middle of it so proberly uses 5v and 12v, like a PC does.

So I do not see Sky Steam using the same amount of electic say as a 2KW heater that 55p a day, proberly more like 2p a day.

Sky Steam uses the same amount as a mobile phone when its charging on slow charge, that uses 5v, on fast charging it uses 12v.

And it uses as much as a Mini Console(Sega Mega Drive Mini or THEC64) uses, they use 5v too because they use ARM SoC in them so mobile tech so it can use phone chargers to power them because they do not come with a power suppy, some use 3 amps and some use 1 amp and as much as a Raspberry PI. uses.

I am not a Sky Engineer but at one time wanted to be one or a BT Engineer... 🙂

I like working things out like its a puzzle... 🙂

I was a PC Engineer and fix peoples PCs by going to there house, Windows XP was known to slow down PCs over time and clog up the PCs RAM and its start-up.

Re: Sky stream standby mode

I've had sky stream since January and have only had this problem today. My tv watching habits haven't changed so I'm wondering if there's been an update in the last week (I've been out of the country so not watched for the 7 days) causing this problem today.

I've turned off the power saving features that I can find but can't find a specific setting for standby on my sky stream puck settings.

@Kirsty163 Nothing has changed - this has always been the way with the sky streaming platform and is by design. If you pause live TV, are idle on the Home Screen or pause sky on-demand content after 10 minutes of idleness the puck will turn off unless you pick up the remote or press a button on the remote switch resets the 10 minute timer.

@mfactor111  The mind boggles 😂.  In answer to your question, unfortunately nothing has changed and is very unlikely to ever do so as the puck (& Glass) is designed to do this as part of the eco power saving system.  I agree that it is very annoying and if nothing else it could to with a longer time limit before shutting down.  My Samsung TV gives various options including "Never".
