Sky stream no longer able to output full UHD with new TV

After upgrading my TV recently my sky stream puck is no longer outputting a full UHD signal

I can get a 4k picture if I change the HDMI input port to 'standard' instead of 'enhanced', but if I set it to enhanced the puck just freezes when I try to switch the output resolution to UHD (previously it just returned an error saying the screen doesn't support it). Even if I do use 'standard', the various apps like Netflix and Disney don't work when I select any content that tries to output HDR and the screen goes blank

this obviously makes no sense - the TV is a brand new Sony Bravia 9 and it can play content from my other devices on the same port in full UHD, and the puck was fine with my 2018 model Sony af8

is there anything else worth trying or am I best off giving up on sky stream? Quite glad I'm recently out of contract because the product has been terrible over the past 6 months

If setting your HDMI port from enhanced (meaning  it can accept HDR content) to standard (restricting input to SDR), it sounds as though it might be a HDMI handshaking issue with your Stream puck.

Could you check your TV's software/firmware is up to date via the instructions at  https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00028577 (apologies if this is teaching granny to suck eggs!)

if that doesn't work or no update is available, try using the HDMI cable from one of the devices that does work on that HDMI port in enhanced mode with your Stream puck, just in case the issue lies with the cable itself.

So I have now got this working - but I'm not really certain how or why!

it turned out I did have software updates available for the tv, and I also went through several phases of swapping around cables and so on but it eventually started working!

@Olic1  are you using HDMI 2.1 certified cables?

@Exiled-in-HH technically there is no such thing as a HDMI 2.1 certified cable the various cable standards are explained here https://www.hdmi.org/resource/cables given they are the guys developing the HDMI standards they should know 😀

Sky Stream cannot output more than 18Gb/s over HDMI so does not require Ultrafast cables certified to pass 48Gb/s the Premium High speed cables certified to 18Gb/s are perfectly suitable. Unfortunately there are a lot of counterfeit cables around and price is no indication of quality but brands like Amazon basics are OK.

Like other digital cables buying a higher spec is pointless so unless they are cheaper buy the standard the system requires.

@Exiled-in-HH Fact remains neither spec is required by Sky Stream which maxs out well under 18Gb/s. If you like throwing money away be my guest.

Re: Sky stream no longer able to output full UHD with new TV

I just prefer not to have issues with high quality 4K DV/DA content😂🤣😂

Especially considering little more HDMI 2.1 certified cables cost .... which is money well spent😉

@Exiled-in-HH I agree and I've swapped all my HDMI cables for 2.1 just to cover myself. They cost £1 more than 2.0 cables 😆
