Sky stream keeps shutting off off giving me a bank screen

Hi

my sky stream keeps kicking out of programmes I'm watching and I have to switch in and switch off to get it to come back. It seems to be happening more frequently like a few times a day

@Ela123 Sounds like an internet drop out problem to me from your description. Are you connecting via WiFi? If so, it's worth connecting via ethernet if you can (switching WiFi off in the Settings). Ethernet tends to give a more stable connection.

Thanks

The internet is not dropping out on anything else. It cuts out if I go through it from Netflix but it doesn't if I go through my TV for Netflix and I can't connect via a cable. No worries thanks I'll just cancel at the end of the contract as it's not really working for me.

@Ela123 A way around if your router is too far away is to use Powerline adapters. A pair of them and two ethernet cables would give you a more stable connection.

Stream needs 25 Mbps for HD and 30 Mbps for UHD content to work properly.

Thanks but I don't think it's the connection as if I stream through my TV there's never a problem. I'm not willing to spend any money trying other options I'll just give it back when I'm out of contract

Ultimately, other devices being fine isn't a relevant matter as most other devices don't work the same way the Sky streaming platform does. The puck needs a constant connection to sky's servers, as practically everything is run remotely off of them with very little running directly off on the stream puck itself.

Its why for the streaming platform its not just the broadband speed you get to your property that is the only key metric, but the network connectivity in the property as it needs a strong and stable connection to work without issues, any Wifi dropouts or interference will at times cause the puck to lost it's connection to sky's servers and have issues.

@Ela123 As @MarkGoldsmith said so elequently, it's why switching to ethernet might resolve the issue for you.

I have Glass and despite it and my phone being the only devices using WiFi in my home, the first week I had it was a nightmare with the WiFi dropping. I switched to Ethernet and 3.5 years since have had no connection issues. My problems have been firmware related in that time.

@Ela123   I initially had similar problems and it was impossible to connect an Ethernet cable without it being visible all around the room, however I was on advice from Sky able to reposition my router so it had a clear line of vision to the puck and hey presto it's worked without a blip since.  It might we worth a try before cancelling.

Thanks all but it's not just the connection that's just and annoying pain it's the cost too it went up £6 a month 4 months after having it .... I'm just not finding it worth the cost and annoyance of the cutting out and freezing I end up watching mossly on my normal tv of using my tv apps as that's reliable
