Re: Sky stream , honest review

I have had sky streaming for about three weeks now and I really want the Q box back is it possible I can do that? When watching the news the sound is not marching the person's lips. The sound on the sky remote does not recognise the Samsung make so have to use the tv remote raising or lowering the sound. I am not enjoying sky streaming at all.

As long as you are in your 31day cooling off period you can go back to SkyQ , you may need to renegotiate your contract or stay on the one you was on , I enquired about sky stream but got a good end of contract  deal with sky Q  so I kept it , and happy that I did after seeing all the Trust pilot reviews , they are horrendous.

Re: Sky stream , honest review

So I've had Sky Stream for around 5 weeks now, and I'm really pleased to report on a whole I am very satisfied.

I came to Sky from Virgin Media, who had offered me a good deal to stay (even sent a contract) only to then refuse to honour that contract.  I had been looking to leave Virgin due to various issues anyway and this was the final straw.

I  took a deal with Sky using my Blue Light Card, however Virgin refused to allow my landline number to be ported over which did cause massive problems as my broadband part of the deal was cancelled.  Sky then refused to match it despite being told by various advisers they would.  I eventually came to a suitable agreement with Sky after threatening to cancel.

My biggest fear with Stream was that the broadband speeds Sky offered in my area would not be quick enough, I left 1gb speeds from Virgin to 80mbs with Sky, however I pleased to report my fears that so far my hard wired Stream Puck works very well.

The picture quality of the Stream is in my opinion a step up from Virgin Media, although the UHD HDR content is similar, the standard HD is far superior on the Sky Stream.

I love the menus on the Stream, there are many different ways to access the content you want, even my partner manages to find her away around them. I honestly believe Sky have nailed the menus.

I enjoy the Playlist feature, I was slightly worried about losing the record function I had with the Virgin Media 360 box.  However, the playlist feature works well for me.

Despite all my positives I have had a few small niggles. Firstly, during the first 2 weeks my Stream has twice developed pixelation on every channel, however after a reset the issue was resolved. However (fingers crossed) Sky appear to have resolve this issue.

My second issue is that occasionally when watching some on demand content after sitting through the adds midway through a show, rather than resuming where the adds began the Stream box jumps back to the start of the programme.

And finally the live TV content is around 40 - 60 seconds behind real time, this however really isn't an issue to me at all.

All in all I'm delighted I've made the switch to Sky and pleased I ignored the Trust Pilot reviews.

Re: Sky stream , honest review

Had Sky stream for 6 months - great when it works but it rarely does. Moved house, no dish so moved over to Stream.

Worked fine - then issues with technical fault. Puck not connecting to Internett - speed to Netflix via TV connection 56Mbps but puck not recognising it or wifi.

Spent about 7-8 hours on phone - at least you can speak to human.

First time on community - can see not alone with issues - under developed produc relaeased to market.

Rather more than three years ago, and widely used.  Whatever the cause of your particular issues, it's not product immaturity.

I have noticed since the latest software update sometimes when I turn on the Stream box it is showing a technical fault. Pressing the home button clears it but obviously there is an issue there somewhere.

Re: Sky stream , honest review

Sky stream has easily been the worst streaming product I've used. Same intermittent issues already stated elsewhere, sound issues picture freezes etc etc

Look forward to getting rid of stream when contract is up in a couple months shame I can't get out earlier when the product isn't up to scratch - just puts you off using them in future.

Re: Sky stream , honest review

Surely you can get the ombudsman on to this they are , providing services that are not not fit for purpose .

Sky is a member of two independent alternative dispute resolution schemes, the Communications and Internet Services Adjudication Scheme (CISAS) and the Financial Ombudsman Service. Sky will advise you which Alternative Dispute Resolution provider you need based on which of our products relates to your complaint.

On what basis have you arrived at that conclusion? In my experience. Sky Stream is entirely fit for purpose - indeed less problematic than Sky Q.

Re: Sky stream , honest review

Plenty of freezing issues still but hoping that Sky will sort it eventually. It's a great product though but just need sorting. Nothing to do with the ISP

It's definitely fit for purpose and is certainly functional for the most part. I now have very few issues with mine TBH, but it's far from perfect.

I beg to differ when it comes to comparisons to Sky Q however. In my experience I had zero issues with my single Sky Q box in the several years I had it. Whereas I've had multiple frustrating issues with Sky Stream in the past 18 months.

I think the key difference is that Sky Q is reliant on Sky installing it well in the first place. If the dish and cabling are installed correctly then it's much harder for it to go wrong. Connect the cabling to the Q box, supply it with power and you've got a TV service.

Sky Stream on the other hand relies much more on the customer to provide and maintain a fast and stable broadband connection in order for the service to function. With various different ISPs, routers, cables, TVs, soundbars, AVRs, etc. all out of Sky's control, the chances of having issues with Sky Stream are much, much greater.

Overall, the technicalities of Sky Stream are also much more complicated than Sky Q. Delivering multiple live streams along with hosting multiple third party apps, a vast on demand library of content and keeping track of customers' playlists is quite a task for Sky's servers. Sky Q was (and still is) much less complicated in many ways, as long as the satellites delivering the content continue to orbit the planet.

Sky Stream does work well for a great many people, but there are so many technological variables at play that there are still many others who find it problematic. Whether Sky can get the service to a place where it works well for everyone remains to be seen...

Understandable. My Sky Q issues were its propensity to generate the dreaded proximity error with Mini boxes.

Ah yes, minibox connectivity still seems to be the commonest issue with Sky Q.

I never had miniboxes as I'm a firm believer in keeping TVs out of bedrooms.

Re: Sky stream , honest review

@Mark39  I can't speak for @Freddy1000 but cannot entirely agree with you.  I have previously praised Stream and I like a lot about it and haven't had many of the issues such as pixelated screen as many have.

For me the issue is the Playback system. I am not going to restate the well documented problems with it but we tend to watch via Playback a lot more than live tv, and I can honestly say just over the Christmas period for example we have not had a single evening without it sticking or jumping out altogether or going back to the start.  For me Playback is Streams Achilles heel.
