Sky Puck keeps turning off after FIVE mins of inactivity

[removed]
The TV puck is Literally turning off automatically every 5 minutes even if I've paused a programme. Is this new!? It's insane if so!!

This is happening to me and it is extremely annoying. No warning either.

It completely defeats the point of being able to pause TV

Mine is now turning off, even if I'm paused on a tv show every 10 minutes. It's absolutely bonkers and so infuriating

Thats expected behaviour. If you pause a TV channel, leave it on the home screen or pause sky on-demand content it will power off after 10 minutes of inactivity if you don't pick up the remote ( you will get a warning on the screen to pick up the remote).

It works slightly differently if you are idle inside an app e.g Netflix, as i suspect the Sky software is unable to determine whether or not you are idle when inside a third party app.

It's an eco/EU hangover, even though we've left the EU we continue to follow their insane rules!!!

The Sky Stream device isn't just a UK product. It is in fact a system designed and built by Comcast and used in a number of their subsidary companies throughout the world ( albeit under different names). Comcast clearly wanted a standardised product that they wouldn't need to make various regional modifications too ( which would increase the complexity and cost of any sort of software changes to the platform).

Re: Puck keeps turning off after an hour.

You think they'd do that though. It's not a free service. We are paying for it. They have all these advertisements lording about how you can pause while you do other things and come back to it and watch sky sports, your favourite teams etc.. and then the tv just turns itself off. They should do something about it rather than make excuses that aren't relevant to this customer base.

Yep. Why bother having the feature in it's not fit for its purpose?

never used to do this either so it clearly can be changed.

@Julie8336 I have been on the streaming platform for over 3 years and this ECO shutdown has always happened.  Very, very annoying but as has already been explained the pucks are used world wide including many EU countries so the have to comply with EU legislation

I got caught out earlier today when I received a phone call so paused my regional news which unfortunately does not have a watch from start feature so I ended up missing it.

How strange. I'm sure it hasn't always happened to me. But not saying your lying lol.

Even more annoying for me is when I'm watch a football game I've chosen using the colour buttons and and hour into the game, while I'm still watching even if I have moved the remote about, it turns itself off.

it's really good at not letting you watch stuff.

I suspect when it comes to the advertising material what they are actually referring to is being able to pause/stop watching a show mid way through and then being able to resume where you were watching it from via the Continue Watching rail. But its certainly a quite clumsy advertising ( as a lot of advertising tends to be nowadays).

I keep on having this problem with my sky stream puck every time I pause live TV or anything on demand go downstairs by the time I’ll come back up the sky puck has switched off I can be about five minutes just making myself a drink and every time I come up it’s always switched off whenever I pour something it is very annoying

Hi @micheal+trussler Many subscribers including me have been moaning about this for some time but nothing will change as it is a built in ECO feature.  It caught me out again earlier today.

I don't have a problem with the concept of this ECO feature but it is too severe and should allow you to pause for a longer period of time.  I have not actually timed it but I imagine you can only pause for 6 or 7 minutes.  Glass TVs and Stream pucks are sold to various other European countries so have to comply with the relevant legislation.

If I know I want to pause it for longer and I remember to do it, I use the voice control and say back 10 minutes and then leave the programme running.  I then use FF or RW to get it back to the correct place.
