Sky puck turns off after a period of inactivity. Is this normal? I have turned off all powersavings

I have talked ro sky about this and they have no idea either and was wondering if anyone has had this problem and how to solve it. All powersaving modes have been turned off, but puck still turns off after a period of not using thr remote. Also, the remote isn't sensitive when I shake it, and sometimes turns off anyway. So annoying if I'm doing something and want to listen to music or news in another room or in and out of kitchen at dinner time.its driving me mad. Help!

The most annoying aspect is if we take a break for a while before watching the next episode of a series, the Puck has not only turned off but lost our place in the menu.

We have to turn the Puck back on, then go down through the adverts for programmes and films, to find our series in the Playlist.  Why can't we set it to start on the Playlist?

We're not a family who sit watching TV continuously, we like to do other things too. Sky Stream could be great if we could choose how to use it, but we're beginning to think it's not for us.

That's intended to work like that, if there is a period of inactivity you'll get a message advising it will shutdown, a button press on the remote should stop this

Thank you for your reply, but surely you should be able to turn that off? If I'm listening to music, I don't want to always babysitting the remote!

You're quite right. The Puck uses a trivial amount of power and the constant switching off is a real nuisance

How often do you need to respond to the prompt on your Puck?

@_Clive_ & @Dillydollydo there is a regulation that requires all set top boxes designed after it was introduced to automatically go into standby after a period without user input. It was an EU directive but the UK government has adopted it.

We don't have the TV on all day. We turn it on to watch a programme and then off again.

When we do turn it on, we expect to see the programme screen right away, not have to wake up the Puck and go down its choices.

Yes I'm well aware of the regulations, but the Puck is not a box with a hard disk. It uses very little power. The power supply uses some power, and it's running 24/7.

And the regulations only require devices to go into standby after a "reasonable" period. It seems from the complaints on here that the period chosen by Sky is unreasonably short.

How unreasonably short is it?

Ten minutes for the menus is the not so reasonable one.

The 'while watching' is a longer, but just annoying.

Still, there should be a preference option to turn them off.

I can do that on my Roku, smart TVs and all my computing type devices.

Have found a trick that so far has worked for keeping live linear TV going, especially on those long many hours motorsport sports events.

Startup the Youtube app on the Sky Stream.

Start a live stream, like the  ongoing Post office enquiry court one that runs many hours during weekdays or a NASA live stream.

Do not exit Youtube, just within the Youtube app using your Sky Stream remote voice call your linear channel you want to watch and it stays connected.

Youtube is still always running in the background.

Swipe left to check if not sure and do same again as above voice calling out the linear channel.

I couldn't agree more Clive. This is exactly what I'm saying in my original grumble! Let's hope that they can fix this. And soon!

If a family member actives the Puck do they necessarily want to start from what another family was watching?

Most streaming services start with the requirement to select a profile before even getting to selecting  what you want to watch🤔
