None of the above is necessary in the next 2 or 3 years.... 😂

The planning needs to be in place, though, either to specify, design, build and launch new satellites, or to transition millions of subscribers to an alternative platform over about five years in order for Sky to have a sustainable future business model.

@Kevjs Your TV should have an spDif out. In which case you go HDMI to your TV and then Audio out from your TV via spDif aka fibre

@TimmyBGood SES still have a satellite launch schedule... Have they made a public statement nothing will be launched to 28.2E?
What's for sure channels will close ... perhaps only one satellite will be required at 28.2E when the last of current satellites fails whenever that happens🤔

Almost all the satellites scheduled for launch globally are for telecoms/internet or earth observation: as I said, there's no confidence that broadcast television has a ten year future, let alone the thirty that investors would want.

Channels come and go on regular basis without even 5 year plans ... continuing current channels just requires SES to continue in business ... anyway satellites don't last 30 years😉
The SES business continues🤔

My TV and many others don't pass through Dolby Digital.

In which case you'll either need to upgrade your TV or connect the Stream puck to your soundbar or AVR directly via HDMI.

I wouldn't have Sky Stream because of all the facts I have previously mentioned.
No optical output.
Loss of Sky channels when internet drops out.
No ability to record meaning I am at the mercy of broadcasters making material available.
Having to pay extra to fast forward adverts.
if I don't get a good offer on my Sky Q package when I renew I will be leaving Sky after 22 years.

Optical Output is a dinosaur waiting to die off... eARC is much better and is supported by most modern tvs and soundbars & surround systems.
Cloud recording is available on most channels and the ones it's not available on, the channel owners have apps so you'll either get a bookmark for the file on their app or Stream will pull the file directly from the required app.
Paying for Ad skipping is a choice but as broadcasters move online, you'll potentially see them remove the ability to fast forward through adverts even if you've recorded a program directly to your harddrive. ITV are doing this now on BT/EE TV if you choose IP delivery for your channels.

Quite possibly, but that's not likely to cause Sky to revise the specification of the Stream puck given it would require a different PCB plus a remodelled (and larger) enclosure to accommodate an additional socket which only a small percentage of subscribers would ever use.
As @Nigelb1972 indicates, TOSLINK is 1980s technology which is now increasingly obsolete because unlike HDMI (2002 onwards) it cannot carry enough bandwidth for the better modern audio formats.

Which is why if I don't get a good deal on Sky Q I will be leaving and if in the future they close down Sky Q I will leave.

Where will you go to?

@Anonymous if you live in a Virgin area you could give them a try.........but Q will in the fullness of time will cease to be an option, I believe Sky's contract with Astra expires in 2028, will they renew, I doubt it.

And Virgin Stream pucks have abandoned everything except HDMI and power (over USB) sockets ; )
I believe their current big boy boxes still have S/PDIF though.
