Sky Stream Price Point

Why is it that I can watch all Sky Sports channels in HD on Virgin Media Stream for £18.75 a month on a monthly contract - when Sky who own the service charge their own customers £27 for a sky spurts monthly contract in HD?

I can also get BT sports channels  including BT Sport Ulimate for £10 a month. Where as Sky want to charge £30 a month ?

Sky Cinema channels in HD on a monthly contract are £10 a month with Virgin versus £13 on Sky Stream.

The Virgin media kids pack is £2.50 a month including Sky kids versus £6 on Sky stream.

All the basic channels - sky max, history, discovery, Eurosport, Gold etc are £8 a month on Virgin stream v £29 on Sky - albeit Sky include Netflix and D+

either Virgin are making a loss or sky are making huge mark ups and profit

@Jason+GoldingYou are trying to apply logic to pricing, always a mistake.

Just accept they can charge what they like, just choose the best or cheapest supplier that meets your needs.

Yes, that would generally be the point of being in business, although it's worth noting overall profits across Sky Group (a division of Comcast) are diluted by the less well performing departments and product lines, and through carrying loss-making elements such as Sky News.

@TimmyBGood @I never realised that the idea of running a business was to make profit. You learn something new everyday hey ? It's also good for businesses to be competitive with pricing. Did you also realise that sometimes a smaller profit margin x more customers can mean more profit. Have a good day.

According to Virgin's terms:

Get Sky Sports HD subscription for £18.75* for 18 months. 30 day rolling contract. Price valid for 18 months or until cancelled. Price after 18 months subject to change – currently £38.75* a month. 10% Stream Credit will apply from month 19 onwards.

Based on that it's only £18.75 for 18 months, then the price is higher than Sky.

That's virgin running at a loss (or breaking even) for 18months to try and entice a customer base

somce the general perception is that virgins customer service is a lot worse than sky they potentially have a lot less overheads to cover .......

Be prepared for Sky's customer service to get a whole lot worse. The redundancies have begun by the look of it:

It was inevitable with Glass and stream being pushed as there is no need for installation staff and only minimal maintenance as 90+% will be just send out a replacement box.

Re: Sky Stream Price Point

@Jporch316 I posted twice. One about VM pricing and another about Sky making redundancies that was moved from the stream/glass thread. In my last post I was referring to the latter. Have a good afternoon

I see

Would you prefer to pay less for your tv subscription and have overseas call centre for customer service?

Re: Sky Stream Price Point

No - my point is this. I am happy to pay a premium for a premium service - that to myself includes UK based  customer service.

Aside to that - I do find it strange that a third party (VM) can sell skys product cheaper than Sky can.  I also find it strange that sky can charge 300 percent more in the case of BT Sports for the same product - I think that's a fair point no matter where the CS is based.

As a whole I am happy to pay  a premium for premium service - I pay a premium for EE as they have uk based call centres - i buy food from M&S because it's great quality. I will not pay a premium for non premium services - in my opinion by Sky reducing their UK/Eire call centre staff they are doing this. VM call centre CS are just terrible. Ultimately I want value for money - that not always the cheapest option and often isn't.
