Wondering why there are no Sky app to load on other devices?
The Sky stream Box is pretty underwhelming, so I would prefer to access Sky via my Apple TV 4K unit which is a far superior bit of kit.
Why are there no apps available?

Sky Go is available for Apple TV boxes but requires a Sky Stream/Glass/Q multiscreen or Whole Home subscription and is limited to 720P resolution.
NOW TV is available for Apple TV boxes and offers Sky programming but is entirely separate to Sky Stream/Glass/Q subscriptions and is limited to 1080P resolution with the Boost add-on.
Both do work very well though as apps. Much smoother and quicker at navigating than the Stream puck, as you'd expect with the difference in price!

Yeah I'm aware of those services, it's the full fat Sky 4k Atmos streaming I would much prefer to use Apple TV 4K for😁

Ah yes. I had the same dilemma. I quit Sky Stream after a frustrating year and now get all the content I want in 4K from other apps on an Apple TV 4K box.
Until NOW offer their streams in UHD/HDR then I'm afraid there's no single Apple TV 4K app to get Sky content in that format in the UK.

Presumably because Sky has been a hardware company for approaching four decades.
One significant issue with switching to app distribution is consumers have come to believe the 'correct' price for such a subscription is about half what Sky charges for content on Q or Glass/Stream, but it's that income which maintains an extremely large legacy media business.

You'd like to think as Sky move from dish to streaming the massive reduction in costs would bring the prices down.
The cost to install and maintail dishes, then rent transponder bandwith on satellites and uplink stations must be huge?

The infrastructure for their streaming platform is quite extensive and also expensive to maintain, and is also now global, being designed and curated by Comcast. The hardware is also now even more mass market with the XiOne Comcast box now spreading across the US as the Xumo Stream box, the UK and Europe as the Stream puck and in Australia as the Hubbl Hub.
Glass TV's too are heading out across Europe and Australia and to South Africa by the end of the year. It's by no means cheap and they are a business after all. If customers have gotten used to paying X amount for a satellite service then it's assumed they'll pay similar for roughly the same service delivered via broadband. Although it's quite clever that they can create the illusion of it being cheaper by not including the additional cost of the broadband in the overall cost...
With Sky Stream/Glass you're also paying a bit extra for the simplicity and convenience of having everything (or as much as Sky can afford) in the one place. Most customers like to have this convenience - if they didn't then Sky wouldn't exist. It's a full TV service with free to air channel streams, pay TV channels, apps and the playlist, all held together under a familiar looking UI. You're basically paying for a vast quantity of content - the vast majority of which you'll never ever watch, but just knowing that it's there is enough to keep most people happy - there will always be something to watch.
You can however get pretty much everything that's available on Sky Stream/Glass elsewhere, often for cheaper, but not wrapped up and delivered in the comfortable blue Sky UI which customers know and love.

A recent update to the NOW app on Apple TV 4K boxes has revealed that a new Ultra Boost subscription will finally bring UHD & Atmos to NOW TV.
No launch date has been revealed, but UHD live Sport streams have recently been testing on the NOW app on some platforms...
