Re: Packet Loss (or, Sky Stream is a rubbish product)

Sky internet is so poor.
after months of internet dropping out, directly connected to the router.
they advised me, after I was about to leave and use Starlink,  that is was my overhead copper connection and that an upgrade to fibre installed in the same fashion would correct these issues.
so signed up and got my new fibre.
has the issue been resolved.
no and no as I sit here after two weeks of connections my internet is continuously dropping off.
Thisbis not WiFi but actual internet where I only have one green power LED light showing.
1-2mins later it comes back.

this is happening at all hours of day and night.
terrible service and cannot wait to discuss why after two weeks my internet is not even achieving my min 400mbs, max I've seen is 240mbs with speeds down to 120mbs.
sky you need investment in your server farms.  Or do you  rent them from a third party.
high cost, poor services and poor excuses.  Always an open reach issues when it was copper.

Sky BB is delivered using Openreach services🤔

If your BB has issues ... Sky Stream will have issues😉

@Longstrider if you would like help from other customers post details of your issue in the Broadband forum with speedtests ideally run over an ethernet connection rather than WiFi and if you have a black hub includecyour hub's conection ststs Find your Sky Broadband router statistics

As a Sky Broadband customer myself I get a reliable fast connection and your issue is highly unlikely down to any issue with capacity of Sky's network. It is more likely either a line fault or a networking issue in your home.

Re: Packet Loss (or, Sky Stream is a rubbish product)

Hi and yes thank you, my Wi-Fi is fine and works ok as long as the internet is connected, as an electrician who wired and tested my ethernet Cat5e cabling and is 100% working fine, and where I have replaced the sky router three times now, and the fact there is a huge contingency of users who suffer with the same issues, this is a standard response in the IT industry, always a cable or user issue.
Its been years of intermittent internet, and gradually getting worse.

I lived in a new build before I bought this place, and we had to use a private network, slightly higher prices, but you knpow what, never went down.

I 100% appreciate internet goes down and don’t live in a mindset that it would work 24/7......yet this is not getting better, I was a virgin customer 15years ago and never suffered outages as much as the current trend seems to be.

Investment needed, and less profiteering please.

Re: Packet Loss (or, Sky Stream is a rubbish product)

You seem to be directing your comments at Openreach who deliver the distribution network😉

I've used a number of ISPs and can say I've never had the issues you described🤔

Why did you choose lower quality cat 5 when wiring your home for ethernet .... do you use access points to connect using WiFi?

The multiple billions being spent by Openreach to replace decades-old copper with a national optical network doesn't count?

Re: Packet Loss (or, Sky Stream is a rubbish product)

Cable is one thing.  Servers and hardware etc is another.
BT is investing in one.
Who owns and runs the Sky server farms that we connect to?

Re: Packet Loss (or, Sky Stream is a rubbish product)

Thats good news.

maybe they can re-direct my connection to your server farm.
and you can use mine.  👍
Because working from home and 5 times min throughout the day it drops completly out and this is pretty much every day sure is not fun.
FYI this is not WiFi thats the issue.

Re: Packet Loss (or, Sky Stream is a rubbish product)

@Longstrider So perhaps you should start again as you've been complaining about BB issues?

Even 5e is lower quality than you could have used, and you've been referencing WiFi🤔

Sky Pucks need a stable BB service to work correctly😉

'server farms' host content; they aren't involved in broadband connectivity.

Re: Packet Loss (or, Sky Stream is a rubbish product)

My original post states it's not WiFi? 👍
Cat5e and Cat6 can handle 1000mbs?? 👍
higher grade cable gives you better transfer quality sure, but requires more expensive ends, deeper boxes etc etc.

no point for what I need in all honesty.....when I am running it separate to any power cables.  👍

that all works fine.....

Re: Packet Loss (or, Sky Stream is a rubbish product)

Content that is being interrupted several times a day......your saying it's a open reach cabling issue?
amazing how many times I have heard every IT eng state it's a cable issue, despite being proven with a fluke and OTDR test results.

its a classic.

Re: Packet Loss (or, Sky Stream is a rubbish product)

@Longstrider you need to address your BB issues for Sky Stream to work.

Can you say whether devices connected directly to the router work without issue?

If not have you requested a replacement router?

Have Openreach investigated your BB issues?
