Puck connected to wifi extender via ethernet cable ?

Hi All,

I'm disappointed with the picture quality when watching HD & UHD so I've connected my puck via ethernet cable to a TP Link wifi extender. I haven't really had a chance to play around in Netflix & Amazon TV to see if it fixes the issue.

Am I wasting my time ? Will the puck automatically connect to the Max router via wifi and ignore the wired option ? I can't find a setting that disconnnects the pucks wifi............

Thanks

TP Link WiFi extenders are, in my experience, pretty poor. Powerline adapters (which send the signal over your existing electrical wiring) are much better.

What speed is your puck receiving? To find out, open the Netflix app, navigate to the get help menu and run a network test.

You can turn wifi off in the network settings menu to compare the difference between a wired and wireless connection.

Re: Puck connected to wifi extender via ethernet cable ?

Thanks for the reply. I bought a pair of powerline adaptors recently so will give them a go tomorrow when I'm off.

I'm not very techie minded so do I need to connect the 'master' adaptor via ethernet cable to the Max router or can both be positioned around the house where I might need them ?

Yes, the 'master' adapter connects to your router via ethernet cable then the other adapter you can plug in anywhere near your Stream puck. You then connect another ethernet cable from this adapter to the Stream puck, turn WiFi off on the settings and you should get a much stronger, more stable signal, as long as the internal wiring in your home is in decent condition.

I live in a Victorian terrace house with ancient wiring and the powerline adapters I use work incredibly well. Good luck with yours!

Re: Puck connected to wifi extender via ethernet cable ?

Thanks . Modern house so thin walls !! I'm 'only' on Superfast (fibre to the cabinet) but will probably upgrade to full fibre at some point in the near future.

When you say 'switch off wifi' is that on the Max router ? I can't find a wifi setting for the puck. Presumably that will mean that no other devices will connect to wifi if Max router is disconnected ?  I work from home some days so need wifi to my pc in a room where the router isn't located.

You should switch off WiFi on the stream puck if you connecting it via Ethernet.

the puck has a tendency to default to WiFi if it's enabled even if it's all connected via Ethernet cable.

it should be easy to find the setting to disable under the network section in settings.

Re: Puck connected to wifi extender via ethernet cable ?

Thanks Mark. I can find basic settings for the Max router in the Sky app (to switch off wifi etc) and can see the puck in the app but there are no settings for the puck within the app. I'll connect my TP Link powerline adaptors and check the settings in their app.

The setting to disable the stream puck is on the puck device itself. If you turn that on, then go to Settings and Network you should see the wifi setting and the option to turn it on and off.
