Poor picture quality in Sky stream
Hi
We have just switched over to Sky Stream to save money on our £200 Sky Q bill, but as we live in a listed building we could not drill through our 20" stone walls.. My husband got the engineer to run the cable into his office, which is a wooden outbuilding next to the house ( approximately 6 metres away) and now the WiFi doesn't reach the house. During his talks with Sky advisors, there was no mention of the fact that our current Sky Q Boxes were acting as signal boosters so once they were removed we had to spend an additional £350 on boosters for every room.. but it's still not perfect... programmes drop out all of the time .. was the transfer a bad idea given our unique situation?? If so we will transfer back ☹️

Re: Poor picture quality in Sky stream
From what I think you are saying.
You currently have your broadband router setup in an outbuilding at its first connection point.
What kind of broadband is that and who is your ISP?
Has your property never had a landline phone/voice cable inside your main property?
You would have had a smaller access point possibly from that or you have wood or plastic around a door or window that could act as an easy entry point that a new fibre cable could be drilled through easily.
A listed building would not stop an Openreach engineer or an altnet engineer adding an internal ONT with a cable through a wall or as above entry point to their small outside box.
Does your current broadband come to your property underground or via telegraph poles?
Other things to consider.
A dedicated mesh system, but the dropoff could be quite dramatic from the outbuilding into your property through those wide walls and may not offer anything better than your boosters.
Assume your outbuilding has power. Is this on the same circuit as the house. If so you could try powerline adapters.
You could run an ethernet cable alongside the power cable run that links to the house, if that is possible.
For diagnosis on your current Sky Stream pucks.
Can you do a network speed test on each of your Pucks.
Launch Netflix on your pucks (you do not need to be logged into it, if you do not use netflix) and scroll down the left menu to Get help.
Choose Check Network.
Would suggest running the test a few times, say over a half hour period and at busy network times in your household.
What is the speed?
Sky Stream with two pucks (former Sky Q and Sky+ customer).
Sky Ultrafast + using Sky SR203 hub. Sky Mobile unlimited data. Sky Protect smart tech kit tester.

Re: Poor picture quality in Sky stream
personally for £350 i wouldnt use boosters. You can get a much better mesh wifi system that will provide long lasting and far better coverage for much leass.
43inch Gen 1 and 55 inch Gen 2 Sky Glass & sky live camera 3 Pucks. Virgin media M500 on hub 5x. Four sky mobile sims.

You will need to have your router inside the main house for it to work correctly. The signal will struggle with the thickness of those walls @Jubsie

Re: Poor picture quality in Sky stream
I live in a listed building. The telephone cable enters through a window frame and it's been like this for years. The cable comes from a pole attached to the side of the house. Sky Stream appears to work well even though we're only on a FTTC connection via Openreach.
