My sky puck has just arrived. Should I connect it now or wait for the engineer?

As @Chorlty226 says, Sky Stream is entirely self-installed and there are no engineer visits for it. As long as you can type in your WiFi password, Stream is very easy to set up and get going.

I don't think they send an engineer, it's usually self install, plug it in, plug the lead into the hdmi on your tv and follow the on screen instructions.
