I've not swapped to stream and the main reason for me not to swap is the loss of too many channels including a couple of my favourite channels Talking Pictures and That's TV.

I don't have an issue with upgrading my Broadband to a better connection to accomodate this, but want to know peoples thoughts especially those who were with Sky Q for quite some time and have switched, or those who have wished they hadn't changed.

Re: Is the upgrade from Sky Q to Sky Stream Worth it?

Just a few observations of my personal experience following my original post.
As my contract is up shortly I rang Sky about a new deal explaining I would be open to switching from Q to Stream if a deal could be done. I did not expect a "New Customer" type price but some reduction might have swung it for me to recontract.

They were not willing to give me anything.

So does this mean that Sky at present are not particularly bothered about moving even loyal customers from Q to Stream. Strange if Stream is considered the way forward for the future?

It could be down to a number of factors. Sky are more interested in getting new customers onto the streaming platform rather than porting existing Q customers. Q works well and most customers who have it are happy. Stream can be a shock for some people who switch from Q as it's a very different type of service. It's easier for Sky to keep existing customers on the stable system which customers know and love than it is to deal with them when they complain about missing channels or inability to record or fast forward easily.

Someone who's never had Sky before is more likely to be impressed by the structure and format of the Entertainment OS streaming platform, than someone who's spent years recording, watching and deleting programmes at their leisure. It's worth noting that although Sky Stream does 'cloud record' some content, it's not like having a big hard drive in the cloud which you, the customer, has control over. It's not like having a Q-like planner at all. There is no list of cloud recordings for you to manage and delete at will, all that kind of stuff is hidden and under Sky's control. Now that's absolutely fine for many people, but for those who are used to managing their own recordings on Q, it can be quite difficult to grasp.

Once Sky Stream is more bedded in (it took Q a few years to settle) and the satellite service is nearer to closing, I'm sure Sky will be more than happy to get everyone currently on Q switched over.

Unless Stream is eventually inevitable, given the current broadcast satellites have a limited life expectancy: the Sky contract with SES runs to the end of 2028, with the three Astra platforms themselves expending the last of their positioning propellant sometime at the start of the next decade if not earlier.

stay with sky Q as long as you can afford  it, as it can record and download program, plus with most downloads sky removes the adverts, but with streaming  you have to pay extra  to remove  the adverts. So sky Q is still  the best option

True.

Swings and roundabouts though. To have Q in HD is extra, more so again if you want UHD & Atmos. Stream/Glass is HD by default with UHD & Atmos being extra. Stream/Glass: HD included, pay for ad skipping. Q: ad fast forwarding included, HD extra.

Re: Is the upgrade from Sky Q to Sky Stream Worth it?

I have to say I'm undecided. I have SkyQ but only for freeview now as it got too expensive so i signed up to Now TV. Have to say i relly dont know whether to get stream or re sub to Sky Q. When i go online there is absolutely nothing anywhere for me to re sub to Q they only show glass and stream. My biggest fear of stream is recording as i used to record lots of sport on Q and i fear on stream a lot of recorded stuff will just show as highlights do to rights etc. I have a lot of thinking to do.

Try and get a good deal for sky Q maybe with a new account with someone in your  family etc as Q is definitely  still the best option, it can do everything streaming does plus it records

Sky do take account of names and addresses when people start new accounts so a person in the same family would be noticed

It looks like Sky are no longer offering 18 month contracts changed to 24 month contracts.... unless you opt for the £3 more expensive 31 day rolling contract

Re: Is the upgrade from Sky Q to Sky Stream Worth it?

HD comes as standard where available including sky Atlantic on stream unlike Sky Q.

Even though you can't record most shows can be added to a playlist.

Channels like talking pictures aren't available yet, but That's TV are looking to add their channels to Sky Stream I understand. https://rxtvinfo.com/2024/thats-tv-plans-new-streaming-service/

Its future proof as I don't believe satellite TV will be available in another 10 years and Sky are probably downsizing with satellite installer staff.

The reason I dont want to switch to Sky Stream is real time sports. I have hated watching live football on Amazon as the stream is typically at least 30 seconds behind. You end up getting notifications on your phone before you see a goal! Does anyone know if that is a problemon Sky Stream?

By the end of the year Sky are planning to have rolled out their low latency sports stream to the streaming platform for all their Sky Sports channels

Re: Is the upgrade from Sky Q to Sky Stream Worth it?

Ive been considering the same and dont think ill go for it.

i have skyQ + mini boxes.

i have a garden bar which is hard wired from the main house router but skyQ still offers unreliability which means i often get signal/connection drop out which is horrifyjng when you have friends over to watch a major sporting event.

i have 1GB speed wifi even in the bar (hard wired and mesh system) so would love to get Sky stream there only and leave skyQ everywhere else. Sadly thats not possible from what ive read, it has to be one or the other..... unless anyone can explain otherwise?

@Ryan86kg

It can only be either Q or Stream at the address, not both.
