Every time I try and activate discovery + from the link I received by text, I get a message that says 'we can't do that at the moment, we hope to have everything back to normal soon. Please try again later. ' this has been the same for a few weeks.

Try the steps outlined here. You can activate via your Stream / Glass device:

You basically need to take out a subscription via Sky Marketplace and then link your discovery plus account to your Sky account.

Thanks for that.. I don't have the option to subscribe in marketplace.
when I try and watch something using the app, I get the following message..
'upgrade your pass via your apple account to start watching'
any advice??

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@James2791 If you were previously a Sky Q susbscriber then moving to Glass/Stream all your Marketplace subscriptions are cancelled so you have to re-register.
You should be able to register (or re-register if applicable) as follows:
Go to the bottom of the home page and select the following in this order: MySky / your products / (enter your PIN) / App Subscriptions
Select App subscriptions / Current / and then Discovery + Monthly. Hopefully it will say £0 per month as you have a Sky subscription. If so select Activate subscription.
