EE to start selling sky stream

Interesting that EE from next week will start selling sky stream with their broadband and mobile plans.

Would be surprised if sky mobile doesn't switch from O2 to EE at some point in the future.

Starting to see proper consolidation of the market now

Now that would improve Sky Mobile.

There is a lot I like about it as an MVNO, but the underlying O2 network is utterly useless.

The O2 network is awful and EE is much better

100%.

I like the rolling data, the app is fine for managing stuff and the deals are competitive, but the lack of data throughput via O2 kills it dead for us. Been there, done that.

If they swapped to EE I would move 4 SIMs back.

The entire mobile infrastructure in this country is so poor compared to other European countries ..... the archaic planning regs for masts and lack of investment is laughable. It comes to something when Vodafone and 3 say the only way they can afford to improve their networks is by merging. Turning off the 2g and 3G signals has just made things worse.

go to a big city and get 5G icon and watch your mobile speed grind to a halt as you vie with a million other people to share data from one mast .....

rant over !

Re: EE to start selling sky stream

@stereohaven as with most of Sky's account management apps, it's all so easy to manage. Got data left, piggybank it..  Need data, pull it out. No faff because it all just works. Which is a fat cry from the telecoms specialists, where nothing seemed to work.

The shonky 5G on O2 has educated me to hunt out open WiFi networks though and I save more data as a result.

@Jporch316  that's so true. We were in Reikavic in February and never dropped below 100mbps on 4G. Here, it's almost impossible to get 30mbps+ on 5G.. For a technology that is supposed to be the best, it's been very poorly deployed here but so was 4G.

Partly government greed and overspending on bidding for bandwidth, partly the inability to erect enough masts. (Legally or morally) partly using Chinese made equipment then having to remove and replace said equipment.

an absolute disaster class

That reminds me, when we were with Sky Mobile and went to Spain, the speed and network coverage was excellent.

The £2 daily charge to use it was not and most other MVNO's seem happy to allow you to use an amount of U.K. data when roaming in the EU, up to 14GB on a few I've seen.

Meanwhile, if you use Sky Mobile in Ireland (on Vodafone), data for roaming is included. But that is another thread... 🤣

No announcement, just my opinion.

I tend to agree with this analysis on RXTV, although I did say this on the EE, BT and AV forums before I read this peice... 😂

Despite reassurances for current customers and promises of further improvements to the EE TV service, it’s difficult to envisage EE wanting to invest in a separate TV platform indefinitely, when Sky Stream offers much more content, having struck more deals with more broadcasters and streaming services.

Today’s announcement looks very much like the beginning of a phased exit from managing its own TV platform, coming only a relatively short time after beginning to offload its sports channels. (BT still holds a share in the TNT Sports joint venture, but is expected to reduce its share in the next few years. Warner Bros Discovery is already the de facto controller of the sports channels in terms of channel management and playout).

This will allow BT Group and its consumer brand EE to focus on its core broadband and mobile business.

As you would expect, various EE/BT staff are saying "everything is normal and nothing will change", but they didn't have a clue about BT Sport being sold until it was, so I suspect the decision has already been made and now it is all about logistics.

Re: EE to start selling sky stream

Very intriguing.

I've never had an EETV sales pitch before but I can't imagine it's going to be much fun for the sales team trying to explain the difference between a Sky Stream puck, an EETV Pro box or an Apple TV 4K box and associated multiroom options for each, to a new customer looking for a TV service...

Pricing will be interesting. Will the requirement of taking EE broadband affect the price of the Sky Stream service? Why would you want EE's broadband over Sky's broadband? Will broadband/Stream deals be comparable between the two?
