Do I need a TV licence if I don’t use Sky stream

Hi! I subscribed Sky TV ultimate and they will deliver the sky stream puck to me. But I never watched any streaming live and will not watch them. Also I don't watch any films on sky cinema, I only access to the tv series on Netflix and Disney+. If I receive the puck, does that mean I need a TV licence even though I don't watch any films, sports, lives (record)?

Thank you so much for reading my question and answering it!!!

@Rachel665  You still need a TV licence even to watch content on demand, Netflix etc

I'm not sure why you would pay a monthly fee for Sky Stream if you don't intend to use it however because you have it then you will need a tv licence.  Take a look at the tv licence website and it explains in detail of what you can and cannot watch @Rachel665  https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/faqs/FAQ104

@Rachel665 As I understand it you only need a TV licence if you watch anything on any content provider live. You also need it to watch any content on BBC iPlayer - whether live or on demand.

@Anonymous  is correct: just possessing a device capable  of being used to view 'live television' (or any BBC content whether live or on-demand) doesn't in itself require the address to be covered by a TV Licence.

Having such hardware does potentially make it harder to claim you aren't doing so, though...

Only if the same content is being 'broadcast' at the same time as it appears online.  That's generally not the case for Netflix (yet) although they appear to be about to start carrying live television channels in France.

@TimmyBGood Actually, Netflix do show live events each week from the WWE.

Ah, which does potentially complicate things even more.

The principle still applies though: it's the act of watching 'live' television which makes the premises licenceable, not the hardware used to do so.

Why would you get and subscribe to Sky Stream if you have no intention of using it?

@oj01 I'd guess to access the box sets maybe? They can be watched without a licence.

Consuming most content doesn't need a license: it's just the TVLA likes to pretend otherwise by greviously obfuscating the word 'live' ; )
