Best TV for sports/footy

Looking to purcahse a new tv. Going round in circles when i read the reviews. Sony a80L, samsung QN90c and possibly LGG3 are contenders at the minute. When i try view at currys/john lewis i just get underwhelmed when watching any footy. Has anyone any thoughts/views??? I will have sky stream/UHD. Would like the tv to be a good all rounder when watching non sports.

cheers.

We've got a Samsung QLED and it's fantastic...

An absolute essential is make sure that the TV supports HDR10 and HLG with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision as bonsues for Prime and AppleTV, Netflix etc.

Also, eARC support is necessary for if you're using external Audio such as a soundbar. I'd recommend this because the inbuilt speakers are really poor despite what they say.

And 120hz support just in case you fancy a bit of PS5 or Xbox X action.

I spent a week reading various reviews online before buying the Samsung.

@KenAdams147

Depends on your viewing environment.
If you have a brightly lit room and watch a lot of TV in daylight then the Samsung may be the better bet. QLED will go brighter than OLED so will fare better in a sunny room.
I personally favour OLED though. It's inkier blacks and wider viewing angles are brilliant all-rounders and really only marginally less bright than a QLED in real world situations.

Try out the operating systems too. All use different ones which suit different users.
The LG G3  would be my personal choice overall. It's a superb TV, has won various awards and only lacks the HDR10+ format of HDR which is least used. It offers Dolby Vision, HDR10 & HLG so anything from a Sky Stream puck is covered.

Weirdly, non-specialist stores* tend to use poor quality source material, bad local distribution methods and inappropriate default TV settings.

*and I very much included Currys in that category ; )

@KenAdams147 Get yourself to a proper store like Richer Sounds for a viewing, they will set up the TVs correctly and quiz you on all the important questions to make sure you get the right recommendation.

For me, OLED is the best at handling fast moving action like sports, but that doesn't necessarily mean LG as both Samsung, Sony and others produce great OLED TVs. LG make all OLED panels, but the processing added by the other manufacturers can make a difference.

Mini-LED is also coming along nicely and is an improvement again on QLED panels in my view.

But picture (like sound) is subjective, so the best thing you can do is arrange a proper demo in a store where people actually know what they are doing and have the capability of replicating your home enviornment.

Your eyes and your wallet will thank you for it. 👍🏻
