Hello folks, hope you are well?
Enjoying the live TV aspect of Sky Stream and had some really nice picture quality to enjoy so far.
I have BT Sport activated on Stream (via BT, as part of a Sky Q rollover onto Stream).
BT HD Channels are excellent and Ultimate is definitely a further step up, however for some bizarre reason it just strikes me as a little more compressed than the native BT Sport App on my TV.
I can't entirely put my finger on what the issue is- the Sky Stream BT Sport Ultimate appears an overall brighter image,- almost artificially so- whereas their direct BT Sport app on my Sony has the proper HDR feel to it. Just a bit more detail and wider colour gamut.
Wondering if anyone has had the same experience at all and whether there is anything I need to do or can change in order to maximise my experience with the BT Ultimate channel?
Any thoughts or recommendations welcome 👍🏻 Thanks 😊

Sky and BT both use HLG for HDR. Shouldn't be any noticeable difference

BT Sports App uses HDR10 and BT Sport Ultimate on Stream uses HLG, that may account for the differences you're seeing.

No, they don't. They use HDR10 and have done so from launch. Any displaying of HLG is at Sky's end as BT only broadcast with HDR10.

@d2h this isn't my understanding. Can you please provide a link with the reference for this

I can't, no, because I don't have a link confirming such a thing. I can only advise you what I know to be factual and correct and it's up to you whether to take that on board or not.

There's quite a technical desription of how BT Sport operates here:

The BT Sport website isn't very technical - they always just call it HDR. But there is a mention of HDR10 when using the app on an XBox:

BT uses HLG HDR, the same as the BBC, who has also attracted many complaints about "dark images" from viewers during the several trials they have run.

Scroll down on this BT Sport help forum. An employee confirms HDR10 on the Apple TV 4K BT Sport app:

No, it uses HDR10 and has never used anything else. The only "source" from BT.com will be an uneducated person on their forum, perhaps? It's certainly not from BT as they don't use HLG.
HDR10 PQ is the order of the day for BT and stems from their mobile first approach when launching the app.
Please do keep searching for your answer from reputable sources only as these will confirm what you're looking for (i.e. HDR10).

Thanks everyone for your responses.
O would imagine that there is a HLG (Sky) v HDR 10 (App) difference based on my experience and what I see alongside the BT tech forums suggesting the same.
What makes it confusing is that when I check my Sony TV menu to see what HDR setting is playing, Auto and HLG are the same on both the Sky Puck and the BT App, whereas if I select HDR10 the TV crushes all the dark images and messes pictures up.
So my TV appears to recognise both Sky Stream BT and App version of BT as HLG, but there is a clear difference which indicates HDR10 may indeed be the broadcasting choice of BT Sport.
I suppose the next question....why does Sky not simply mirror the BT broadcast to maintain its intended format?

Sky mandate that all HDR10 content be converted to HLG for play out to the end-user. They don't need to do it but it is something that they insist on.
