Rented "The Batman" tonight but can't get it on my iPad.

As the title says, rented the batman on my TV earlier. Came to bed excited to watch it but my apps (iPad and iPhone) don't seem to have it or be able to access it.

 

Any ideas?

It all depends where you rented it from 

 

If you rented it on a Sky box you can only view it on a Sky box 

 

If you rented online / on an app - you can only view it on one of those type of devices (or an LG TV with built in Sky store)

 

What device did  you use to do the rental ?

I rented on the TV but with the absolute intention of watching on my iPad. 

If what you're saying is true then that is absolutely god awful of sky. The whole point of sky Q (their big marketing campaign) was the whole "seamlessly switch between tv and devices" thing.

 

i ended up in my frustration renting it from Amazon prime. Ill be on the phone to them (sky) tomorrow for a refund.

With the case of Sky Store if you wanted to watch it on your iPad you needed to have rented it via the Sky Store app or website and not your Sky Q box, sadly this catches a lof of people out.

Yes unfortunately this is in the terms and conditions 

 

"Rent
If you rent a movie on your Sky box, you can only watch it on that box. If you rent a movie on your registered device, it'll be available on all your devices but you can only watch on one at a time."

 

Once you press play on a rental on a Sky box it will charge you - so I would certainly try a live chat with them when they open at 11am

 

Explain what's happened and if you did press play (and get charged)  see what they say

 

hope you get it resolved 

 

The reason they do this might be to stop people sharing rentals ?

no wonder. In this day in age it's an absolute joke. I don't know if it's bad policy or bad technology but it is diabolical. Rent it from literally any other service (google play, Amazon prime etc) and you can watch it anywhere you like. 

Completely **bleep** poor on Sky's part.

Honestly I can only imagine it's poor tech or crap policy. But either way they are so far behind their competition in this regard that it's embarrassing, and a company of Sky's size and resources should be able to solve this problem (if it is a tech problem) it be self aware enough to understand that if it is policy, it is TERRIBLE policy. 

as I said in another reply - every competitor (google play, Amazon prime etc) lets you watch rentals anywhere you want....  because why the hell WOULDN'T that be the way you did it?

I doubt it's a tech problem as the rule only applies to rentals - not buy and keep. 

 

If you buy and keep a movie you can interchange between types of devices and watch it on an iPad / Sky box etc 

 

It coukd be a licencing issue between Sky and the distributors- but yes - the Sky rental model doesn't work for everyone. If you want either / or then it's convenient- but not if you want both
