This is correct as rented films can only be watched where they were rented, sadly this catches a lot of people out so all you can do is to contact Sky Store support to see of they will refund you for the app purchase so you can then rent it via your box. They have a live chat you can use that is available from 11am-7.30pm Monday to Saturday and can be found here:

Only Buy and Keep films can be sent via the app to a Sky box.
