Can I use Airplay to watch a movie rented on my iPhone on an AppleTV?

Hi,

 I've looked through all of the support / FAQs but I can't find anything specific about Airplay support on iOS devices. Can anyone tell me if I can use Airplay to watch a movie rented in the Sky Store app on my iPhone on an AppleTV? I know some apps block this so I'm hesitant to spend any money renting a movie only to find out I can't airplay it to my AppleTV to watch. (It doesn't appear that there is a Sky Store app for AppleTV in order to play it directly.

Hi @Rick+Currand 

No - you can't cast to Apple TV or download a Skystore app on your Apple TV

Chromecast will allow you to cast

or a recent Sony TV with built in Chromecast 

or if you have a recent LG TV you can download the app on to that 

Or you can use a PC or laptop with an HDMI output 

Those are the ones I know about

Hi @mike+simmonds , thanks for confirming that, I had a feeling that was the situation. It would be helpful if Sky would just state this clearly in their FAQs.

Unfortunately the lack of Airplay support means that Sky Store isn't really a viable option for me.

On those occasions where for one reason or another I've ended up with credit on my Skystore account, I use that for a buy and keep (rather than a rental) with the knowledge I can send the purchase to my Sky box 

This whole issue of "why can't I view Skystore rentals on my Sky box" seems to be a result of licencing agreements beteeen Sky and the distributors - but I've never really understood why they are in place as they are 🤔🤔

What a waste of time and money. No warning you cannot watch this on the sky box if you order the rental on a mobile device or computer.

I agree the "warnings" should be clearer although perhaps Sky would say it does say on the rental page

"Watch your purchases on up to four compatible devices and if you're a Sky subscriber you can send your Buy & Keep purchases to a compatible Sky box."

It must be technically possible @Aa+ICE+Malcolm so the only barrier I can think of (just guessing) is that there is no licence agreed for Airplay to decrypt the Sky transmission 

again - if this is the case - I wonder if it's Apple or Sky who don't want it 🤔

Well I have credit from Asda Pizza and that's the only reason.  Will never bother until  they sort it.  Will stick with all the others that can!
