Avatar way of water is out on April 4th on sky store and yet again sky store is only available in HD. Amazon offers UHD. So which one will you choose? When will sky store move with the times. Do not answer if you going to say contact sky store because all they say is that they will pass your concerns on. Anyone else annoyed how behind the times sky store is?

hi @howdy12
I don't know about the release dates but I not that the new Avatar film is showing as pre-order for buy & keep not rent.
AFAIK SKY Store only have UHD for rent so maybe when it reaches it's 'window' for rentals it will be available in UHD

Yeah, I'm furious with this.

Sky must want to sell as many movies as possible and whether it's a licencing issue / tech issue or just an odd decision - the UHD offering on Skystore is strangely limited.
So some customers will go elsewhere and buy the UHD and some will (reluctantly) buy the HD from Skystore.
Somewhere along the line you would hope Sky will be doing some sums and deciding whether or not it's worth them changing their policy.
It looks like Sky have already made their mind up not to go down the 4K Bluray route but we can only speculate on the reasons why they don't have a better digital UHD offering when it must be costing them sales.
Have a look at Sky Store – A quick guide for users

Its all the time mun. You can rent uhd only when they available for rent but not buy them. When they arrive on sky cinema its back to uhd. Totally useless.

Pretty useless really.

Personally I suspect part of the reason for lack of offer to sell in UHD is due to the platform - you are reliant on SKY Q / SKY Stream to be able to watch in UHD - the other platforms you can access SKY Store on don't (to my knowldge) support 4K
As you don't own SKY Q & now SKY Stream then should customers cease subscription they would not be able to play bought content in 4K
I certainly would never buy 4K from SKY Store (even though I have been a SKY customer since it's launch)

Eh? More than UHD HDR? When it's patently not remotely as good?
As for the earlier question, I'm not furious about this, no. I don't tend to buy stuff on Sky Store. If I'm going to buy a movie (fairly rare these days) I'll get the 4k bluray. Notably better quality than any of the streamers.

I opted for Avatar:The Way Of Water (194 mins) 3hours 14 mins from Prime.
I love UHD HDR -Dolby Atmos
The HD Sky Store "The Way Of Water " is 3 hours 4mins which is 10mins less.
Sky more than makes up for the lack of UHD content on Sky Store by having a vast amount of UHD movies etc available which I watch and always enjoy through
my Sky Glass TV .

Does the Amazon Prime version have Atmos ? - on my TV App which shows the sound info icons - it is just listed as 5.1

Same price but Dolby VISION and Dolby ATMOS on the Apple TV App Store.

Sorry Sky but a long time diamond customer has just made their purchase with Amazon!

A typical US to UK frame-rate conversion difference (although no doubt there will be rumors that the 'shorter version' is 'censored')

So frustrating. I shall just buy it via Amazon Prime instead!
