want sky Q but multi room is in an annexe
We would really like to upgrade to sky Q to give more recording options etc. Sky keep offering this to us as we are on old boxes with a dish. One account with multiroom added for our annexe (this still had to have its own dish as too far away from the main dish), the engineer just put another dish up on the annexe side.
my understanding is that the mini skyQ for the multiroom needs to talk to main box? But this is too far away and at opposite ends of the property as its in an annexe. many rooms to get a signal through and doors..
The annexe has its own phone line and broadband which BT had no problems doing and billing seperately but sky will not allow 2 accounts under the same address so we are a bit stuck. could be getting another £70 from us if agreed to do this but apparently no, not allowed.
any SIMPLE ideas from an expert would be great.

Re: want sky Q but multi room is in an annexe
You would need to link a Mini box in the annexe back to the main Q box over either ethernet cable or Powerline network adapter, while keeping it isolated from the annexe broadband connection.

Ethernet is good for 100 metres. You might get somewhere with a point-to-point network bridge as an alternative, but that's getting rather specialist.

Re: want sky Q but multi room is in an annexe
Although you may not be getting SKY Q dues to the distance issue, I just wanted to make sure that you were aware that SKY Q is different to SKY HD ib that all recordings are made & stored on the main box (so possibly less storage) & there is no user profile system so all recordings are available to both boxes & not separated in any way (except UHD which recordings can only be watched on the main box)

Ethernet is good for 100m per run (just put a hub / repeater in the middle for 200m etc.) how far away is this annex?!

Re: want sky Q but multi room is in an annexe
Thats just a huge length of cable wire then having to run through rooms?? Needing to be hidden somehow through a lobby, utility room, a large kitchen, long hallway & thdn other end of a lounge!
think we'll stick to sky+
one day sky might allow 2 accounts at ine address.
thank you all.

Usually done through conduit and ceiling voids but yeah, it's not trivial.

That's never been the case and so is probably unlikely, although it would make much more sense for the Glass/Stream platform where each device is an individual network client.

@lorri66 if ethernet is not possible if the annex is on the same electrical circuit as your main house then look into powerline adapters
