sound problems in last couple of weeks
In the last few days or so the sound quality on my sky q box has become very poor - it has lost its quality and is very tinny. It is even worse on recorded programmes. I can turn the sound right up from my normal 15 / 16 up to 40 plus and it is still awful. I have checked software update and have tried turning it on and off. Sound on my TV through normal none sky programmes is fine.
have had the kit for many years with no problem. we have a sony oled tv.
is it time for an engineer but i am at a loss how to contact them these days as i cannot find a number.
many thanks

Hi @bikerdave1
Try a Reset Settings in the Q box hidden menu.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Only Carry out the first Reset (Reset Settings) as the other two will wipe all recordings.
After the Reset you will have to re pair your Bluetooth remote If you use one.
If you cannot switch the Q box on with the remote after the Reset press the Standby button (Amber led) on the front of the box.
To re pair the remote press 1 & 3 together on the remote and follow onscreen instructions to re pair.
Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box when you press 1 & 3 together.
Resetting the settings will also reset:
Audio visual settings, such as picture resolution and HDMI control
Settings changed within the hidden engineer menu, include LNB type. If on a communal dish you need to reset the LNB to SCR in the hidden menu. After changing the LNB type you need to reboot the Q box.

Re: sound problems in last couple of weeks
It seems extremely unlikely the sound would be affected like this unless a setting on the TV has changed for that input.

Re: sound problems in last couple of weeks
Thank you so much for your speedy replies. The problem is strange - no settings on the TV have been changed and the picture is really good. It is just the quality of the sound - especially on play back. It does seem ok when we first switch it on and then it gets worse over time until we are having to turn the sound up very high. I did wonder if there had been a software update that might have affected the sound.
I might call in an engineer as i am not overly confident about accessing hidden menus!
thanks again

Re: sound problems in last couple of weeks
Have you tried changing the hdmi audio out to just stereo? (that one is not in the hidden menu and honestly on the sky box the hidden menu is not very techie anyway)
The fact it changes over time is very weird.

Re: sound problems in last couple of weeks
Hello and thankyou for your reply. I have checked to audio setting and it is on Dolby Digital, we do not have a sound bar. I changed it to normal which was the only other option. There is no significant change but I will keep the normal setting and see how we get on. My only thoughts are that it must have been on DD for years as I have never changed this setting but fingers crossed it might work.

Re: sound problems in last couple of weeks
