sky dish is still the best
sorry to say Sky non dish services needs aty least another 2 years of upgrades to be as good as Virgin cabled system I belive they should have announced the dishless system 5/6 years ago but they did not and this is a major mistake in my view . I have had Sky services now for something like ? 12 years now . Note Sky Glass looked a great idea sorry to say ,it failed badly ! Again little thought on the dishless system

That would have been at the peak of the prolonged Fox/Disney/Comcast takeover battle and associated legal proceedings, so I suspect attention was focused elsewhere. Realistically development of Glass/Stream could only begin once Comcast had got their people in place, and then ran right into the pandemic.
'Q without a dish' was mooted before then, of course, and actually got launched on the continent, but became a dead-end with the corporate takeover and subsequent replacement of Sky operating systems by Comcast software and server stacks.
Incidentally, Sky doesn't regard either Glass or Stream as a failure, and those platforms are apparently chosen by the vast majority of new users.

Sky would say that " the majority of new users are going over to Glass and Stream \0 there problem is that millions have not changed and Sky signed a new contract with the Satellite owners , for a number of years contracts . Even they are worried about the Glass and Sream service. To be honest the whole thing was a disaster . Okay maybe 10 years ago they should have changed ( assuming the tech was there ) . "Dish is best " still . ASTRA must be very happy bunnies now

It wasn't: prior to high speed internet only coaxial cable was a competitor to satellite distribution and Virgin had that sewn up.

By one year, to align with the other satellite clients such as UKTV (owned by BBC Studios)

The current trio of Astra satellites at 28.2E will reach end of life with or without a Sky contract.

Re: sky dish is still the best
I have Stream, and while it has its flaws I wouldn't want to go back to a dish.
The biggest plus for me is that each puck is 4k capable and not limited to UHD on one main box only. Definitely useful when you have four OLED 4K TV's in the house.
With the extra 4K capability also comes Dolby Vision (apps only) not available on Q.
I also find the overall picture better, but this could be subjective.
And the final big one is that my viewing isn't affected by bad weather as the dish gets hammered.
A final positive for anyone using Sky broadband is that there is no Q mesh to limit WiFi speeds around the house.
Of course there are negatives, notably it needs a very good broadband connection with reliable WiFi in the home. And if your broadband goes down you lose your TV. This is probably the biggest downside.
Some of the apps are a little clunky. ITVX in particular can be infuriating sometimes, but I can live with it.
Many people don't like the fact that there is no record as such, but the add to playlist is sufficient for me, with the bonus of not having a hard drive whirring away.
So to say Glass and Stream is a failure is completely unfounded. Glass in particular didn't have the best start, but has got a lot better with software updates. They have been extremely successful, but unfortunately may not be a smooth journey for everyone at the start due to inadequate WiFi setup, or unfamiliarity.

Re: sky dish is still the best
4 OLEDS wow ! that is a lot . i have just one cheapie from TCL 50 inch and a 2016 Sony 48 inch Have fast fibre Sky/BT gives 72 mps average down loads . up loads at around 16/18 mps . And i do not use wi fi use cable conenctions ,for my internet. The dish system serves me okay , no way perfect system but a lot better then the dishless system , which in my view has years to go ,before it is good enough. 2029. It be ready i believe, but not before . that date. If and when Sky gets there act together. They should offer a discount to get sky users to go to the diushless system. To be honest all i here is excuses by the Sky oh it was COVID oh it was the problem we had to go to Court ,over some issue . and various take over issues . Exactly what year was this ?? And after al that they still signed a deal with ASTRA to 2029 . Makes me think they have no idea when those issues wil be sorted out if "ever" . problems are 1. everyone has to be on the fastest fiber ie minimum of 100 download.uploads to have any chance of a decent service 2 cost of advertising Lets be honest Stream and glass have been a financial disaster, what ever they say. officially ! 3 five year they just might sort it all out by then 4 feeling Sky has not doemn yet on take overs and joint promotions ,with other TV companies . 4. Will Amazon . Netflex buy out Sky in the USA and Europe .

2016 - 2018. See the lengthy section entitled " Competition around being acquired " in the Wikipedia entry for Sky Group including the involvement of Fox, Disney, Comcast, plus Ofcom, the Competition & Markets Authority and the relevant Secretary of State,

Re: sky dish is still the best
As Sky Group is now a division of the Comcast Corporation, neither Netflix or anyone else can buy Sky unless Comcast chooses to divest. Sky shares ceased trading in late 2018.

Re: sky dish is still the best
Is there a "50 most unreadable posts of the year" show going out in the grand tradition of late December TV?
Because I think we have a contender 😉

Oh, I missed the European Commission out of the list of those who felt the need to get involved. Multi-billion-dollar US takeovers of significant UK/EU media monopolies tend to be like that
