sky Q box freezers after plugging in Ethernet cable

Hi I'm now on my third Sky Q box for various reasons, this box is a pain, it decides to not connect to the Wi-Fi we very often get a message when switching on that it cannot connect to the network (EE router in the same room) so I have to manually put in the code which is mega long, this interferes with the mini box as wel, so I connect the box via an Ethernet cable but after one day the box freezes and you can hear the HD stuck it makes a loud ratcheting noise, why when I plug in the Ethernet cable would it do this.

Do they replace boxes with refurb boxes

Probably, yes.  The last Q hardware revision was released in 2019 and it's realistically now approaching end of life as a platform, so likely there aren't any 'new' boxes around.
