Any “no satellite signal” message relates to your Sky box.

Whenever a “no satellite signal” message is displayed firstly check that the connections from the Sky dish going into the back of your Sky Q box are still finger tight. Also check out the troubleshooting on this link

It may then give you the opportunity to arrange an engineer to check the alignment of your dish.

A misalignment is not necessarily something that will be visible to the naked eye and could only affect one or two channels. If you’re on a communal dish you may initially need to liaise with your landlord or building management company.

The alignment of the dish is perfect

@Niall82

I doubt it. It needs to be checked by an engineer. As I said, any misalignment won't be visible to the naked eye.

Re: no satellite signal

OK thanks, I'll book an engineer to get it sorted.

Would it be unusual for the signal to be fine for 3/4 days in a row then 'no satellite signal' for a day then back working fine for anther 3/4 days? Is that indicative of a dish alignment issue?

Re: no satellite signal

If the dish isn't bolted up correctly and the wind is blowing it in and out of alignment, a few mm out can make you lose half your channels

Re: no satellite signal

Thanks for that. It's losing all channels for a full day and then perfect for a few days.

Re: no satellite signal

Just out of curiosity, there isn't anything blocking the line of sight is there ?

You can either eye it, or use an app on your phone called "sat scope" if your not sure 🙂

Re: no satellite signal

Hi,

No it's  up on the 2 storey part of house in a semi-rural area so nothing blocking.

Re: no satellite signal

@Niall82,

I would call for a sky engineer to come out, he will use his meter which will check the allignment and your dish is receiving all the transponders.

Re: no satellite signal

Cheers will do and thanks for the quick response.

Just out of curiosity, would that pattern of working fine for 3/4 days then gone for one and back perfect for another few days have any other explanation bar an alignment issue?

Re: no satellite signal

Dodgy LNB, Dodgy tuner(s) on the Sky Q box itself, water ingress in the sat cable causing a short circuit, dish just a tad too much out of alignment that the weather is effecting it for example clouds /or rain.

Without seeing your hardware it's hard to pin point it to 1 thing, if it is any of those listed above, the Sky engineer will have it all in his van to sort you out.

On a side note I know you've probably checked but are the satellite cables on the back of your box screwed in tightly ?
