Update to this - we have tried a new 5 port switch and connected to router. I have tested all Ethernet cables with a high end tester so no continuity issues. I've tried a fixed IP address with Google dns server of 8.8.8.8. Sky have replaced the main box but we still get the same issue. All other Ethernet devices are working and plugging a laptop into the sky boxes cable achieves the internet with a 300mbps connection. I can access any website including sky. I've run a basic ping test for 10mins with zero packet loss . Sky are unhelpful and keep suggesting setting changes that solely relate to Wi-Fi. I'm seeking help from my isp Kcom to see if they can shed any light on the situation. Does anyone know what ports or services the sky q box talks to that we could test from a laptop?

There is a little bit of information here (what the Q connects to on the internet is later in the page)

Re: ethernet connection betwwen sky router and skyq has suddenly stopped working

Problem solved!

An engineer who me what he was doing turned up.

It turned out to be a rogue Sky Booster (an old one with the Ethernet connector) that was connected via ethernet to the switch.

He replaced it with a new booster and all the problems disappeared.

He found the problem by confirming ethernet connections one by one:

1) Connect the router directly to the Q box using a long ethernet lead ( it worked)

2) Connect the router only to the switch then connect the Q box to the switch (it worked )

3) One by one, add further ethernet connected devices until the network goes down. Remove the last added one to confirm the network reconnects..

4)Add in all ethernet devices to confirm it was just the one device causing the problem.

5) Switch off router, switch and Q, then on again to confirm all reconnect automatically.

Can't praise the engineer highly enough. He speculated that it was either a software update for the booster or it just conked out from old age

All now stable.

Hope this helps someone.

Standard Sky router (SR203 on firmware  7.03.0300.R ) into Sky Q.

TV. Fire TV Cube, Sonos Arc plus distribution to other parts of house

None will connect (via unmanaged Netgear switch) to router. All work wirelessly.

If it's not the router, it can only be the cabling.  However why would this fail overnight after working perfectly for months?

Mystified.

Looking for "Sky Booster" in this previously supplied comprehensive network architecture 😁
