That's something you'd have to confirm by calling Sky. I've recently been able to subscribe to 1-2 months of TNT to watch England cricket in India and giving 31 days notice to cancel but not sure if its possible for single Sky Sports channel (though I'm sure I've seen people mentioning on the forum they have done it).
If the price of £17 is for a 18 month contract you may have to pay a bit more for a few months.
