The Q box has a hard drive and a fan (on the bottom). Any noise will likely be coming from one of those.
If you turn the box over, is the fan noticeably dirty?
Anytime my box is behaving unusually, I perform a restart, and if that doesn't work, a reset.
After that, I contact Sky.
Example. My last box had been playing up for a while, needing frequent restarts (average once a week). Then, last week, it started to get worse, and I did four resets in five days. After the third, I contacted Sky and they agreed there was a fault with the box. They arranged to send out a new one.
The final reset didn't get it working again, but fortunately the new box arrived later that day (yesterday, as it happens). All is now good again.
All problems have a solution - but not always magic fixes. Try resetting, and then contact Sky if that doesn't work.
