Youtube app keeps causing input banner to appear on TV every time I rewind
Weird one - when I'm on the Youtube app, every time I start a new video, or rewind one and press play, it causes my TV to show the input banner at the top ("HDMI 2160x...") every single time, as if it's changing resolution back and forth causing the TV to re-recognise it every time.
I've tried the Youtube app on my Xbox, and it doesn't cause this issue, so it's the Sky box.
Video below:
Res is set to 2160, I've tried 1080 out of curiosity and that also does it. I've swapped HDMI ports on the back of my TV too, same issue. It didn't used to do it when it was plugged into my amp first and then the signal sent to the TV - but I don't want it to pass through the amp first.
Appreciate any ideas.. thanks!

Out of interest, why don't you want it to pass through the amp first? That's a pretty standard configuration and what I do.
Weird behaviour. Wonder if the youtube overlay drops it out of HDR or something.

Re: Youtube app keeps causing input banner to appear on TV every time I rewind
Or more likely the app and how it's sending video signals causing the TV to reassert the input signal. Are there any options to disable this on your TV?

Re: Youtube app keeps causing input banner to appear on TV every time I rewind
I don't want passthrough because I don't want the amp to have to be on for me to use the TV, sometimes I like the TV on, and to use the amp for bluetooth - I have my reasons basically! So I have the amp set to 'TV AUDIO' for TV

I've looked through every menu item on the box and the tv (sony bravia), can't see anything relevant at all. ALL HDMI controls are set to OFF.

Re: Youtube app keeps causing input banner to appear on TV every time I rewind
Sorry for dupe reply, forgot to mention - very interesting point about the overlay, I bet that's it. Maybe it's unfixable and the box and TV just don't like each other. Altho the HDMI input banner appears *on pressing play* rather than on rewinding, which is when the overlay appears. I've looked in my TV settings, there's no HDR option. Hmm..

Okay, so turns out it does it on SkyAtlantic on demand as well, when rewinding/pressing play and in and out of ad breaks.

In this particular session, out of 2 of the 3 ad breaks, there was a huge audio pop:

Bet those ads are not HDR
the rewind/play and audio popping is even more odd though.
I would test by setting the output of the Q to 8bit colour.

Hi mate thanks - the output of the skybox is already set to 8bit. Don't think my Bravia does HDR (it's relatively old and can't see HDR in any menus)

Re: Youtube app keeps causing input banner to appear on TV every time I rewind
Hi @jkawai
On a Sony TV it is called the Info Banner and appears when the audio format changes. On newer Sony Google TVs the setting is found by Settings -> Channels & inputs -> Info banner -> Off. On older models, especially Sony Linux TVs it cannot be switched off. On older Sony Android TVs look under Channels. What is the full model number of your TV, it will start with K, KD or XR?
As an unsatisfactory work-a-round, change your Sky Q audio format to Normal. That way the audio format never changes.
Note, this is a Sony TV issue, absolutely nothing to do with Sky.

Hi mate, thanks for this!

It's KD-65XE7002
As an unsatisfactory work-a-round, change your Sky Q audio format to Normal. That way the audio format never changes.
I take it that's just stereo?
Note, this is a Sony TV issue, absolutely nothing to do with Sky.
I wonder why the sony box though is changing the audio format every time I use transport controls? Isn't that a bit odd (i.e. a sky issue)? What's the purpose of that (xbox doesn't do it, for example)
Thanks!

Re: Youtube app keeps causing input banner to appear on TV every time I rewind
Hi @jkawai
Unfortunately you have an old Sony Linux TV. I cannot comment on the xbox, it is probably outputting a static audio format.
I would make sure that you are running the latest KD-65XE7002 firmware - v8933.
As a test, try changing the Sky Q audio format to Normal, and see if the Sony Info banner keeps appearing.
As the info banner is a Sony generated display, and not a Sky Q message, your best bet is to join the Sony other TV community and seek answers from them. The Sony community used to be full of people with the same issue a few years back. I would check your firmware first.

It is slightly odd that the metadata on the audio bitstream would change. Kind of understand it during ads which are not likely to be multi-channel
naff that the Sony decides to tell you about it
putting a soundbar between and using ARC/ audio on that might stop it too?
