Just want to throw my hat in the ring ans say I've also been experiencing this for a very long time. Over a year for sure.

When will this be fixed? It's so poor I may well drop Sky

I also want to add to the people who are saying it's a broadband issue and going down that tangent, it 100% is not I have nearly gigabit internet and I'm wired straight to the sky q box and I've had this issue for well over a year and a half. Also YouTube is the only affected app.
Tbh the absolutely lack of help from sky is ridiculous, the amount of money people pay to access the service and the q box itself should warrant a dive into the cause.
A single response would be nice

The fact that you're hard wired in with such a high speed totally rules out all the Wifi / BB issues mentioned. I firmly believe it's a Sky Q box hardware / software / App implementation issue because of what you said. Furthermore, I've personally had them test my Broadband from the street (no issue), they have given me a new Sky Router (made no difference), they have changed the Sky Q box (made no difference) and I have also done all the secret Sky Q resets / App refreshes (made no difference). There are no issues at all when using YouTube on other devices or on Smart TVs themselves. Please, please, please can someone that runs this Sky Help Forum flag this to someone actually within Sky tech to get this fixed or at the very least give us an update. Also, issues with Disney+ App on Sky Q too but that's another story. That improved when I paid to get off the basic advert package. No other Sky Q Apps have an issue. Mmmmmm. Could it be an issue with YouTube and Disney+ because they both push adverts????? I might add that the length of the YouTube adverts is also ridiculously long on just Sky Q. Watching the same YouTube video on my phone is a completely different experience. Please sort. Please flag as complaint to Sky Managing Director or something to help get this some traction. Thanking you in advance for your help and assistance in this matter.

Same problem for me after pausing and restarting and has been for some time.
I'm a premium member so no ads for me but still at least 50% of the times after pausing YouTube it locks up, until I use the get around mentioned by others, which always works ok.
One other thing worth mentioning is that over the last couple of months when I've been watching YouTube, the content has suddenly frozen completely and the box has been completely unresponsive and needed a re-boot. Only twice so far but the only common factor is that I'm watching YouTube and the box is also recording something else at the same time. Doesn't happen with other apps.
I should add I have a rock solid 500mb Sky fibre broadband, use an etherlink cable and have the latest Q280 software so its definately a software issue.
I can't believe that Sky don't have a ongoing relationship with the various app developers that they use and can't get to the bottom of this.

No it can't be an advert issue because I have YouTube premium ala no as breaks

Posted by a Sky employeeHi all,
We are aware of an issue affecting the YouTube pause feature and have reported it to Google for resolution. Thank you for informing us that the problem still persists. We will follow up with Google in the hopes of expediting the resolution 🙂

Now this may well be coincidental and it is a sample of one, but.......
the recent discussion has related to a possible connection between the pause issue and adverts. I have just paused a 30 minute video half way through for 10 minutes and when resuming I had no issue. It ran normally to the end. Staggeringly in the entire 30 minutes, no adverts! Made YouTube watchable again!

As I've stated I have premium and it still persists

Understood and as mentioned my experience may be coincidental. My question would be how the adverts are triggered in a video? Does some trigger get embedded in the stream that is then ignored if the account is marked as premium? The presence of the trigger, not its action might then cause the problem. Pure speculation on my part of course 😁

It's possible, I do believe that sky are washing there hands of the issue and solely aiming the blame at Google, so maybe escalating this to Google could provide better results.

It might not have ad breaks but could be that the box sees a play advert marker on the video but premium stops that advert from showing meaning the code has to error then it will re-establish the video link. rewinding will take the box past the marker ad let it continue.

come on sky at least 192 customers are having this issue I am sure there are millions of boxes affected (i only found this by mistake)
but have had this problem for at least 2 years and still hasnt been fixed.

I don't think "having to error" is the way streaming ad injection works.

I tried to explain that in too simple terms I know thats not how it actually works but in practice thats whats happening the program looks like its going in to play ad dont play ad loop. when it says loading its trying to load an ad but premium is stopping it doing that
