Can anyone help with this question please :
Will the "Gryphon Parental Control router" work with Sky Q (and Sky Broadband)? The link above gives more info.
I'm not tech savvy and I am desperate to replace Sky's parental control app "Sky Broadband Buddy" asap. It switched it off last week and I'm very worried.
GCSEs are only 4 weeks away and precious little revision is getting done in our house!
🙀
Thank you
Jo

There's a distressing lack of technical information on that page (the retailer appears to be a generic importer rather than a specialist) but my guess is that's a cable modem intended for the US domestic market (note the subscription pricing is in dollars) and as such probably won't be able to replace a Sky Hub.

Their office is based in Harrow, Middlesex, United Kingdom, so not US based, although personally I'd go for either a Asus, Netgear, or a Draytek that has builtin parental controls.
Depends upon what the op wants to do but at the price of the one linked there are cheaper options..

https://gryphonconnect.com quotes prices in dollars, support hours in EST and according to their promotional video the Chinese-born co-founder grew up in Virginia.
If there's an office in the UK it's probably an affiliate.
Edit - from their FAQ
Is Gryphon an American company?
+
Yes, Gryphon is based in San Diego, CA and its products are manufactured in Taiwan.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreI'm fairly sure that device could not replace a Sky Hub without a reasonable degree of complication.
It might, however, be possible to use it behind a Sky Hub as a managed wireless access point which also applies filtering and time controls: that would involve either switching off the Sky Hub WiFi or changing the password on it.

Although you've lost the use of broadband buddy, Broadband shield may be an alternative for you?
And it's Free!
Go to this link and you can see all sorts about it https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-broadband-shield-start
You may not got the same features as Buddy but it may help abit.

As a replacement for Sky Buddy, perhaps Netgear's Circle might be suitable for your requirements. See below:
Netgear circle smart parental controls
suitable with the following routers..

Find out more@Jo2001The other problem with mesh systems is that if they replace the sky hub Q often no longer thinks Sky is your broadband provider and if you have any mini boxes the connection method changes and they want to generate their own mesh on 5Ghz and you can't connect them by WiFi to the mesh, to overcome this they need to be connected to the nodes by Ethernet, an additional complication.

Thank you.
Trouble is the parental control apps that come with the others don't seem to work well, according to Google play reviews.
I'm just stunned that there are so few products on the market that help parents turn off teens wifi connection at the touch of a button from anywhere.
There are apparently you can put on their phone. But no teenager I know will
A) hand over their phone to let you put it on
Or
B) take longer than a day to find how to hack it and remove it.
Don't other people want to limit their teens addiction to instagram, gaming, whatever?
Flabbergasted.
It's like I'm asking for a family holiday to Jupiter.

@TimmyBGoodapologies as I was referring to the sellers site that was linked to, not the manufacturer...

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreI think the seller is primarily an importer, which does suggest a degree of caution should probably be applied as to the suitability of some their products, and particularly ones of that nature. As I said, cable routers tend to be pre-populated with US configurations but won't necessarily work as intended in the UK, particularly on FTTC. It's also not entirely clear if the filtering service subscription is even available here, and it appears the support phone lines would be at international rate.
