Will freesat work with my sky q dish?

Hello,

Due to big increases in sky costs I am considering  a move to freesat. I've seen some posts about certain Sky Q dishes not working with freesat. Can anyone confirm whether I will have problems with my sky q dish? Image attached as I've no idea how to identify which one I have. Many thanks

Hi @Climo

Provided you get one one of the latest Freesat UHD boxes it will work with the Q Wideband LNB on your Q dish

I've just unplugged my Q box and plugged in my new Freesat 4K recorder and can't get any signal? All the info I read before buying the box said it would work if Q works?

hi @samcp88

I think a few people have found it slightly problematical getting the 4K freesat boxes to work & needs a bit of a 'trick'

I haven;t re-read the instructions to follow them in detail but see this link:

Thanks.

I managed to get hold of the local aerial installer and he told me about the box needing to update. Best to leave it on overnight and should all be good to go in the morning.

Come OP, you asked for help. Give something back. Did it work?

Resurrecting a 2023/4 post probably isn't the best way...

Are you trying to do similiar?  (Q LNBs do work with Freesat 4K receivers)

Well it was the top search on google so it's what I read through only to find an unsatisfactory conclusion.
A year is plenty of time for the op to have worked it out and be able to post back findings.

Exactly, which probably means they won't...  best to start your own thread with your own question etc.

If they don't then they don't and that will be that. The post will drift back down unless someone keeps posting of course. Best just let it go rather than continuing resurfacing it.

The fact that they stopped posting on a Sky forum would suggest that it did work and they have since switched to using Freesat.

@n1ckarla   If a Freesat 4K receiver does not initially find the output from a Wideband LNB, follow these steps to update its software.

Freesat 4K Boxes receive software updates and install them automatically whilst in standby.  You can also update your software by carrying out the following simple steps:

  1. Check that both your satellite cables are connected to the box. (RF IN 1 & RF IN 2)
  2. Ensure your box is plugged in and keep the power supply connected to the box.
  3. Leave the box switched on for 30 minutes.
  4. After 30 minutes press the standby button on the remote control or the box to set the box to standby mode.  Please do not remove power supply to the box.
  5. Wait 10 seconds and press the standby button again to switch on your device.  The box may show a loading screen. Wait for this to finish and then complete the on-screen instructions to set up the box.
  6. If after the setup of your device regional channels are not available such as BBC One on 101 and ITV/STV/UTV on 103, go to “Home” on your remote control then select “settings”.  From “settings” select “Freesat channels” and then “Begin channel scan”.  Follow the on-screen instructions entering your postcode when requested to restore your local channels.

Godfrey.
