Why is sky q recording in standard definition?

Maybe I am doing something wrong but I recorded the F1 qualifying on the F1 channel and when I play it back it is only in standard definition.

Is anyone able to provide any ideas as to what the problem is?

Thank you for your help.

@iwaddo check your box is still set to 2160 in settings > setup > audio video > picture resolution if its not then set it to 2160 again 10 bit if you want HDR

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

Hi @iwaddo

The message you have posted is not referring to Standard definition..

Its referring to SDR as opposed to HDR.

So that would be still be in UHD but UHD/SDR instead of UHD/HDR

Re: Why is sky q recording in standard definition?

Ok, but what does that mean?

The racing cars were fuzzy blobs, did I most likely record the wrong channel or is something else wrong?

Hi @iwaddo

If you recorded CH 406 then this is the F1 UHD channel provided you have the monthly UHD subscription.

A replay of F1 Qualifying is now on Ch 406 so see what it looks like.if you view the channel now.

If you don't have a UHD subscription then Ch 406 will be in HD.

If you view CH 406 live you can see if it is UHD or HD

It is in UHD, or at least it says it is. It looks good.

If you recorded it live @iwaddothen there is no reason why the quality would be any different unless you were having Satellite signal issues during the recording

Edit

assuming you haven't deleted the recording you can see what channel you have recorded.

Re: Why is sky q recording in standard definition?

Morning

The qualifying was recorded on the F1 channel.

My satellite signal is locked, has a strength of 80, a quality of 90 which I assume to be OK.

I have checked and double-checked that the F1 race this afternoon is set to record on channel 406.

The setting are set to 2160p (UHD) 10-bit.

We will see what happens.

Hi @iwaddo

There is also an F1 HD Channel.  Provided you have a UHD subscription the following should be on the TV Guide

  • Channel 406 SkySPF1 UHD
  • Channel 857 SkySP F1 HD

Re: Why is sky q recording in standard definition?

Hi, they are both there. The 'R' is definitely on 406.

I know I can watch UHD channels live, the football often pops up to say 'press select to watch in UHD'.

I hope it works I shall be watching fuzzy racing cars.

Thank you for your help

Re: Why is sky q recording in standard definition?

Very happy, it has recorded in UHD 😀

I realised that perhaps the Series Link was recording the wrong channel.

For this race I specifically pressed record on the channel 406 for Sky Sports F1 UHD.

Thanks for your help
