When you add an effect cable to a virgin router does the router name change to Sky?

I have added an Ethernet cable to a Virgin media router and when I have gone through the sky q box to connect via this, the router name changes from a Virgin name to Sky name - is this correct?

Hi @Alan68   If it works, you can safely ignore the name. Mine (connected by Ethernet), is showing an old router name that I had 3 years ago!

Hi @Alan68
Assume that you carried out a Network reset on the Q box?

When the main Q box is connected by Ethernet you can then switch off all Q box WiFi (unless you have Q mini boxes on WiFi)

On the main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router.   Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go into the Q box hidden menu and turn off WiFi (unless you have mini boxes on WiFi)

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit..

You can ignore the Sky SSID shown in the Q box as this will relate to the Q Box WiFi Mesh)

Hi.  Yes I carried out the reset via the settings option.  I have a mini box so can't turn off the Wi-Fi.  The reset connected the Virgin router to the main box but the router name changed from VM to Sky.  Surely the router WiFi name should stay the same

The name of the network shown on the Sky settings menu will change to one starting with Sky but the actual WiFi network name should still be the same if you check on other devices.

You should be seeing the SKYxxxxx wifi network as an additional SSID to that of your VM router.

SkyQ will use it's own network to talk any mini boxes - not the VM network.
